InWord Online - The "End of the World" Issue

January 2011

World

Humankind has long been curious about the end of time. With the nearing of 2012 this curiosity has intensified (the cycle of an ancient Mayan calendar has fueled this). Are our teens ready to enter into the conversation? Can they think biblically about the end of the age? Does it matter whether they can?

FromBarry1. From Barry: What Does Jesus Want Us to Know about the End of the World?

While end times curiosity might be a good window of opportunity to engage the culture on something about which believers should be knowledgeable, there's a good chance few of us have "end times" slotted into our discipleship rotation any time soon. Maybe a quick review of some of Jesus' words can provide momentum in that direction.

TryThis2. Try This: An End Times Primer

The amount of scriptural material regarding the end of the age is so vast it can be handcuffing. But one small verse from Peter and a quick comment from Jesus can give us plenty to chew on and help us live like we know the end is coming. This brief exercise can be used in a number of ways:

      as a devotional for a retreat/activity;

      as a teaching experience in your big group setting;

      as a standalone Bible study;

      as a personal mini-retreat for yourself.

FreeDevo3. Free Devo: Bible Study on the NYWC theme, KNOWN

InWord Resources had the privilege of producing a personal Bible study on the 2010 Youth Specialties' National Youth Workers Convention theme, "KNOWN." Whether you attended the convention or not, this personal study gives opportunity for God to speak to you on this foundational biblical concept. This four-part devo follows a rhythm we find throughout Scripture: God Makes Known...God Knows Us...We Know God...We Make Known.  Feel free to pass it along to your teens and parents!

MediaPresentation4. Media Presentation: Hold On!

One of the most encouraging phrases you can hear when you're in a hard situation is simply: "Hold on; it gets better." The words of Scripture regarding Jesus' return are one giant "Hold on! It gets better!"

Let this simple presentation (it's nothing but raw, pure Scripture in black and white) minister to you and your teens. Maybe you need those words of hope that it gets better, or maybe you've gotten too comfortable in these temporary surroundings and need to be reminded that this world is not what it's all about.

See, Believe, Live: An Inductive Study in John

12 Sessions

Discount: 25 percent

We are continuing last month's discount into this month for a simple reason: Jesus said in John 10 that our familiarity with His voice will keep us from following voices bent on our destruction. We wanted to continue featuring this small-group study in John to help your teens become more familiar with His voice, giving them a solid foundation from which to enter into the hot topics of the day, i.e., the end of the world.

With its optional group guides, you'll find everything you need in twelve sessions for middle school, younger high school, older high school, and college, along with guides for a coffee house setting, a talk, and a guided personal study for your own preparation.
