February Newsletter  
Wow! Beautiful riding weather. We are really lucking out this winter.  If you haven't gotten back out on your bike after those couple of cold snaps, it is time to get going! It's also still a great time of year to make a couple of goals for your riding. Try out a longer ride route, a race, or a charity ride. You don't have to race through it, just try it. It's a great way to increase your confidence and feel wonderful.

Trying something new can also widen your perspective and increase your enjoyment of your sport. This can also be viewed as cross training. Cross training with other sports can make you stronger for riding. Running, swimming, tennis, yoga, and pilates are just a few forms of exercise that can help you excel at the bike. Try it! You might like it!

This month we are starting a series of Pilates classes in conjunction with the Rubin Health Center. Dr. Scott Rubin will be teaching one Pilates class per month for free. So come try Pilates or try our free Yoga class. Both classes are great ways to feel great and stay strong.

Pilates for Pain Free Sports Performance | February 7th 
Scott Rubin

 

Dr. Scott Rubin of the Rubin Health Center is offering a series of Free Pilates classes once a month starting on February 7th at 6 pm. Pilates is a great cross training exercise that can keep you stronger on the bike and more comfortable. The class is free . Just bring a mat and a towel. Pilates builds strength without excess bulk, capable of creating a sleek, toned body with slender thighs and a flat abdomen. (Yeah, we know - who doesn't want that?) It is a safe, sensible exercise system that will help you look and feel your very best. It teaches body awareness, good posture and easy, graceful movement. Pilates also improves flexibility, agility and strength in motion. It can even help alleviate back pain. The next class will be March 6th.

I love cycling and more than just that, I love the cycling world. I teach and I coach but I truly relish working at the bicycle shop! Saturday morning the Trek Store promotes a women's only bike ride at 8 am, please join me!

Training site that gives you new routes
There are lots of sites out there that have tips for training. Map My Ride is a great site that helps you with WHERE to train. The community of cyclists on this site have logged in hundreds of miles in loops and "out and backs". You might find a new one to ride or you might be helping someone else get started.
