June Newsletter
May was National Bike Month and our Go By Bike sales introduced us to some customers who are truly inspirational. We met many people who have been commuting by bike to work for years and many more that wanted to start. Some had lost weight and others were ready to step up to begin a healthier lifestyle. The younger ones were purchasing bikes to take to college, bravely starting a new chapter in their lives. Each person choosing to make changes to improve their lives. We are truly touched to be a part of it all.

As if these great customers weren't enough to influence us, Tour de France, a month long race through France and the surrounding countries, is right around the corner starting July 2nd. These awe-inspiring days of grueling challenges gets us even more pumped up to ride, excited to just be part of the cycling community. We are looking forward to a fantastic race and some viewing parties in the store. Watch for some fun events for the Tour and sales as well.

Out riding with you all,
Anne

P.S. Do you have a great story you'd like to share or an experience? Tell me about it. Is there something you'd like to see in this newsletter that I missed? E-mail: anne@trekstorestpete.com.

Our North East Little League team, the Red Sox, finished out the season with their final game last weekend. As the season progressed so did their abilities as a team. They learned skills for life as well as the ones on the field. We congratulate them on a great season and look forward to sponsoring them next season.

Bike with sunsetDinner Cruise | July 1st 6:30pm

We are having so much fun on the Dinner Cruises. On the first one we rode to The Burg Bar and Grill for burgers and beer. We watch James eat an enourmous burger sandwiched in between two grilled cheeses. He almost finished this huge burger, we were certainly rooting for him. This past dinner cruise was a peaceful dinner overlooking Albert Whitted Airport at The Hangar Restaurant and Flight Lounge. The great conversation and food, was a great way to end the week. Join us for the next one! Bring your beach cruiser or whatever bike you like to cruise on, ride to dinner ...hang out. So simple and so much fun. The next one will be July 1st.

The Hips Have It...Hip muscles

To go along with Dr. Rubin's workshop on Hip Torsion and its effects on the bike, here is an article on using yoga as a cross training tool to aid in hip stiffness. "It's All in the Hips..." explains how your pelvic muscles can effect your back, hamstrings, glutes, and hip flexors manifesting itself as pain in other areas.

Sandwiches for Hungry Cyclists

SandwichesBicycling magazine this month had a great article on sandwiches to fuel you up and keep you going. I have to admit, some of them are oddly enticing. Food for Cycling: Sandwiches for Hungry Cyclists may have that next great sandwich for you. Maybe even take some with you on the bike. After all, sandwiches are pretty portable.

Increasing heat | Hydration plan

It's June already and you know the real heat is just around the corner. Since our coupon this month will help you keep your drinks cool, it's a good idea to refresh your memory on how to use it. This article talks about which hydration techniques to use and when. In Florida you really need to pay attention to how often you take a sip (or gulp). Two bottles an hour is my pattern during these hot months. It makes me realize if I'm behind in hydration and we all know that if you get de-hydrated it is often very hard to catch up. Keep your cool this summer with these great tips from "How and When to Hydrate" in bicycling magazine.

"Cycling the Hills of Central Florida"    or

"How to Bicycle From San Antonio to Brooksville and back to San Antonio in the Pouring Rain and Get Away with it Too"

"Tweedle-Dee & Tweedle-Dum"

Drove to San Antonio for some cycling fun

The parking lot is nearly full

As bikes are being put together

Cyclists are eager to ride

Despite not so promising weather

Off they go: 3, 5 and another group of 6

And, off we go: into the sticks

A 12 mile loop and overcast skies

Gave way to Bayhead and rain drops in our eyes

It's on to Brroksville, we are bound

Even as our cycling brethren were turning around

Our green n' blue cycles dancing on water

Returning to San Antonio, we knew we should've oughter

Rolling rumbles of thunder and flashes of lightning

Can make such a ride all too frightening

Roads became treacherous with newly fallen rain

No time to dwell on it; miles to be gained

A 5 minute pit stop for one and coke for another

Left both, on their departure, with a numbing cold shudder

Breaks in the sky..."Hey, this storm is over."

No such luck and certainly not any warmer

We ascend rain-slicked hills with new vitality

Could this be called a cyclists' insanity?

St.Jo is near and that's a plus

Dry clothing awaits the two of us

Two cars in the parking lot; the others all went home

We are victorious.....

We, alone, conquered the storm.
