April Newsletter
Spring is a time of renewal. You can just feel nature waking up, even from our mild 'winters'. I have been watching those first new green leaves sprouting from the trees.  I smell the jasmine every morning. And I am always hearing the birds chirping like crazy in my backyard.  I, like nature, get re-energized and I am excited to be on my bike.

To go with the this new "spring" in your step, this newsletter has nutrition tips to keep you going longer, details about the American Stage in the Park bicycle nights, and our programs that you have come to expect from us to help with your rides, your maintenance and flats. This is a busy month, but make sure you get out and enjoy the great weather.
Use that positive energy to go a little further, ride a little harder, and just have fun.

Out riding with you all,
Anne

P.S. I'm new at this. Do you have a great story you'd like to share or an experience? Tell me about it. Is there something you'd like to see in this newsletter that I missed? E-mail: anne@trekstorestpete.com.

Events and Adventures
Yoga for Cyclists  Bike and YogaMondays at 6:45 pm - This is not yoga for people who want to be able to put their foot behind their head. This is a yoga class for you and me (the inflexible people) the ones that want to be comfortable in our own bodies. As cyclists, our hip flexors, hamstrings, and glutes all get tight while riding. We need our core strength to hold us up on the bike. It's not a competition, it's part of learning how to recuperate from those rides. Bring a mat and a towel - it's FREE!

Urban Assault Ride

Health and Nutrition

Whether you are riding to lose some weight, training for the next big race, or chasing after the kids, proper nutrition will help you stay on the bike longer. We hear stories every now and then about our customers "bonking" after or during their ride.
Bonking is when your body shuts down due to lack of food or hydration. Many people have gone through and we will all tell you that it is not fun. People have experienced exhaustion, hypoglycemia, and even hallucinations. Proper nutrition can keep you going longer and keep your wits about you.

Keep your stride with an inner thigh stretch.

The muscles of the inner thigh shorten as you get older if you don't stretch them. These muscles will shorten the length of your stride making you walk with tiny steps.

1) Lie on your back - wrap the strap around the ball of one foot.Inner Thigh Stretch
2) Leaving your other leg straight on the floor, slowly raise your leg out to the side until you feel a gentle stretch in the inner thigh.
3) Stay here and take 4 or 5 deep breaths.
4) Repeat on the other side.
