I can't believe it... no leg warmers, no arm warmers, and it is only the beginning of March. While riding my bike, I can feel the sun and wind on my arms and legs again. I forgot what that felt like during the winter when I was bundled up against the cold.
As I enjoy it, it seems that everyone is out also enjoying it. People are walking, running, and biking. The wildlife is out building nests, hunting, and scurrying around. I start to feel a little closer to the Earth and I am reminded that we are all sharing the planet together. I believe that we are all dependent on one another and we all deserve the same respect as we all try to enjoy this life. I go around the snake on the Pinellas Trail for the same reason that I slow down when passing the kid learning how to ride. I am treating them both how I would want to be treated.
In the spirit of spring, we are bringing you many activities to get you out on your bike and to enjoy the weather. The Kid's Rodeo is only two weeks away, the morning rides are attracting more riders, and the women on the Saturday Women's Rides, also growing in number, are having a great time. The Dinner Cruise could not come fast enough for me and I'm telling everyone about the St.Pete "Bike 'N' Eat" because it is going to be fantastic. I hope to see you all at one of these activities soon....enjoy your bike.
Out riding with you all,
Anne
P.S. I'm still new at this. Do you have a great story you'd like to share or an experience? Tell me about it. Is there something you'd like to see in this newsletter that I missed? E-mail: anne@trekstorestpete.com.

___________________________ Meet the Staff | Anne Fidanzato Judging by my last name you probably guessed how I got interested in bi cycles...I'm Rick's wife. For one of our first vacations after we got married, Rick wanted to go with Trek Travel to bicycle our way through the wineries and scenery of Napa Valley. That meant it was time for me to get a real bike. I hopped on a road bike just to try it out and I loved it. I felt as if I was flying through the empty parking lot. Since then I have enjoyed helping out with the Women's Rides at ABC Bicycles, going on Trek Travel vacations, and riding with lots of new friends. In 2009 I started practicing Yoga, Pilates, as well as riding my bike. For me, the three activities blend together to help me be comfortable on and off the bike. I find the stretching and strengthening of yoga to compliment the core workout of Pilates. While both help me recover and stay strong for cycling. Now I am a certified Yoga Instructor and teach Yoga for Cyclists regularly on Monday evenings at the shop at 6:45 pm. I am grateful for the opportunity to share the principles of Yoga and help someone become more comfortable on their bike or in their own skin. I also enjoy helping people find the perfect bicycle for their body and their level of activity.

Yoga for Cyclists Mondays at 6:45 pm - This is not yoga for people who want to be able to put their foot behind their head. This is a yoga class for you and me (the inflexible people) the ones that want to be comfortable in our own bodies. As cyclists, our hip flexors, hamstrings, and glutes all get tight while riding. We need our core strength to hold us up on the bike. It's not a competition, it's part of learning how to recuperate from those rides. Bring a mat and a towel - it's FREE!
Urban Assault Ride March 23rd at 6:45 pm - Urban Assault Ride. Bring your knobby tires and a little of that attitude to ride St. Petersburg with a different style. Lights are required. Every ride will finish at a different local pub. Put that Mountain Bike to work at last.
GiddyUp Morning Rides Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7:00 am - Everyone is welcome on these a.m. rides. This ride is about 20 - 25 miles and keeps a pace at about 16 - 18 mph. Suit up!
Women's Rides Saturday Mornings at 8 am - Join up with a great group of women for a morning ride with just the girls. Learn safe routes, how to ride in a group, and meet some new friends. Flat Class March 9th at 5:45 pm - Flat Class. Let our experts teach you how to change a flat. Bring your wheel and flat pack with you. You'll leave with experience under your belt.
Maintenance Class March 23rd at 5:45 pm - Maintenance Class. Learn the basics of the maintenance on your bike - Give us a call! We're here for you.

Health and Fitness
World-Class Fitness in 100 Words:
Eat meat and vegetables, nuts and seeds, some fruit, little starch and no sugar. Keep intake to levels that will support exercise but not body fat. Practice and train major lifts: Deadlift, clean, squat, presses, C&J, and snatch. Similarly, master the basics of gymnastics: pull-ups, dips, rope climb, push-ups, sit-ups, presses to handstand, pirouettes, flips, splits, and holds. Bike, run, swim, row, etc, hard and fast. Five or six days per week mix these elements in as many combinations and patterns as creativity will allow. Routine is the enemy. Keep workouts short and intense. Regularly learn and play new sports.
~Greg Glassman
In short, KEEP MOVING!
Standing Chest Expansion As cyclists (and humans) all of our daily activities are done in front of us (holding on to handlebars, typing on a computer, and driving). By stretching out the chest, pecs and biceps we can relieve the tension and tightness caused from these repetitive activities. 1) Stand tall or sit upright. Interlace your fingers behind your back and straighten you arms. 2) With arms straight, lift arms up behind you while keeping your back straight and your shoulders down. Keep the shoulders relaxed away from the ears. 3) Breathe deeply and hold for 10-30 seconds. Stretch to the point of "mild discomfort," not to the point of pain. Never bounce. Straighten but do not lock elbow.
