| Practice Corner | |
Students must practice in very short sections (two notes if necessary) and repeat until they can perform the section five times in a row without error. Often this requires a very slow speed, perhaps half that of performance tempo.
We must all practice for success! Students repeating errors are not learning. |

Motivation is the key to Success! Teachers have always known that daily practice and eager students equal accomplished musicians. The challenge for any parent is to provide adequate guidance without crushing the student's enthusiasm; parents are the cornerstone in a youngster's musical journey.
It's essential to set the expectation that practicing is equally important to other scholastic endeavors. As any musician will tell you, it takes far greater focus and drive to excel in music than any course they faced in school. Relegating practice to a secondary status is a recipe for stagnation and dissatisfaction. Only through committing to a sustained effort, will students reap the benefits of their musical education.
Parents must set aside a time each day for their student's practice. Be sure there are no distractions or conflicts which may detract from your student's goal. Expect to hear the same sections repeated endlessly, if you or your family members object--find something to do away from your hard working student.
Parents must be supportive of ALL of the assignments their teachers assign; negative comments on the material or the playing have deep rooted repercussions, and can stymie the most talented of youngsters. Let them know you value their efforts.
Providing students the opportunity to achieve in their musical endeavors is a powerful gift; making the most of it with caring guidance is the greatest gift of all.
