Dear Parents,

It is hard to believe that we are fast approaching the end of the 2011-2012 school year. We would like to take time to thank the staff, students, and parents for making this school year a success and supporting us as we enhance our school environment and enrich our academic programs. We are thankful to have such a supportive community.

We would like to wish a fond farewell to the staff members who will not be returning. Your services have been truly appreciated by the parents and the administration. We would also like to bid farewell to the sixth grade students and parents. Everyone at Belle View wishes you the best of luck in middle school.

Thank you again for a great school year. Be sure to read to your children during the summer months. Additionally, it is important for your children to exercise their writing skills. After your vacation, day trips, or special times, ask your child to write a story to recreate the event. This will assist them in maintaining the skills that they have learned throughout this school year. We hope everyone has a safe and relaxing summer. We look forward to seeing you again in the fall.

Sincerely,

tom

Girls on the Run

On May 20th, the Belle View Girls on the Run (GOTR) ran a 5K race at George Mason University.  These third through sixth grade girls trained for ten weeks to complete the race as part of the United Healthcare GOTR race.  An astounding 10,000 girls and their running buddies took part in the event.
The Girls on the Run program promotes self-esteem and self-respect and healthy living.

During the week of June 4-8, the GOTR visited Belle View's Kindergarten through second grade classes to share some of the information they gained during their ten week training.  During the half hour visits, the team shared lessons of bullying, feeling good about who you are, and showing kindness to others.

                                       Belle View's Sensory Garden

There are no pictures that can do it justice!  If you have the opportunity during the summer, take time to visit our Sensory Garden and enjoy the sights, sounds, smells and feelings of this serene and beautiful place on our school grounds.

The Sensory Garden is a place where the staff and students can relax and learn in an environment that is pleasing to the senses, and conducive to learning.

Be sure to look for a sign up genius for our summer watering program.  The first summer after planting is the most critical for our garden's survival.

Belle View's Outdoor Classroom has Received Another Grant!

The Commonwealth of Virginia Division of Legislative Services has awarded Belle View Elementary a $4800.00 grant on behalf of the Chesapeake Bay Restoration Fund Advisory Committee in support of our Wetland Project. The funds for this grant are provided through the sale of Chesapeake Bay license plates. If you are interested in purchasing a license plate to support this fund, applications can be found in the school's main office.

Soon we will be installing a display sign in our wetland to acknowledge the support of our partner organizations. We will also be adding a bridge, plant markers and benches. Thank you for all you have done to make this project possible.
