Dear Parents,

The annual Thanksgiving Luncheon is scheduled to be held on November 17, 2011. We hope you attend this special event at our school. It is a wonderful time to eat lunch with your child and get to know their classmates. Please be on the lookout for flyers with further details as the luncheon gets closer.

Belle View Elementary's Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held on Monday, November 7th and Tuesday, November 8th.   Conferences are a great time to review and discuss your child's academic and social progress with his or her teacher. If you have not scheduled a parent-teacher conference, we strongly encourage you to make an appointment with your child's teacher soon.

Are you aware that Fairfax County is adopting a new progress report? Belle View Elementary is a pilot school for the new FCPS progress report. A parent meeting was held on October 20th to share the details of the new report that will be implemented county-wide at all elementary schools during the 2012-2013 school year. At the end of the second quarter, teachers will send home two progress reports for the remainder of the year. One will be our current progress report and the other will be the proposed progress report filled in for Language Arts, Mathematics, and Life, Work, and Citizenship Skills. This will allow parents to review progress on both reports. The proposed progress report will not become "official" until next year.

Sincerely,

Introducing...

Sharon Evans, Instructional Assistant!

This is my second year at Belle View and I love it. I love my job as an IA because I get the chance to work with five different classes.  I get to help students from second grade, fifth and sixth grades.  I love being able to help out where I am needed in the classes.

My family and I live across the street from Mount Vernon High School. I have
been married to my wonderful husband for 22 years and we have two beautiful
girls.  My oldest daughter, Corinthia, is in her second year at UVA on an academic
scholarship and youngest daughter, Sabrina, is a junior at Mount Vernon High
School in the IB program.

My hobbies are playing basketball and singing on the praise team at my church. I have one dog named Hunnie, she is a cocker spaniel.  The books that I love reading are inspirational books.

I am a student at the University of Phoenix Online studying Elementary
Education.  I should be finished in 2014 with my degree.  I am so excited about
becoming a certified teacher.

 HEALTHY SNACKING TIPS

The rise in overweight children means that parents need to take an active role in providing healthy snacks for their children.

  • Keep snacks small.
  • Don't eat snacks straight out of the package.
  • Snack only when hungry, not bored.
    • Limit sweet snacks such as brownies, cookies, and candy because they are often loaded with calories and sugar.
  • Offer fruits and vegetables.
  • Offer low fat cheese with whole grain crackers or pretzels.
  • Quench thirst with water, fruit juices or low fat milk, not soft drinks.
  • Read food labels carefully - if first ingredient is sugar AVOID IT.

Use http://www.fcps.edu/fs/food/food_at_school healthy snack calculator to evaluate your snacks at home.

Healthy Tips for the Holidays

    Start the day with breakfast.

Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables.

    Eat lighter meals at night.

Limit portion sizes of favorite holiday foods, especially desserts.

Eliminate night-stress-related gorging, especially in front of the TV.

Go to bed feeling light, not "full".

Enjoy your feast, family, and friends.

Remember to exercise 60 minutes per day.

bingo

Have you ever wanted to have fun, and win something in the process? Well, this is your chance! On Friday, November 18, 2011, in the BVES Café, the teaching staff will be dishing out the prize winning fun at the 2011 BVES Bingo Night!

  • The event will begin at 6:00 (doors will open at 6:00, Bingo begins at 6:30) and will end at 8:30.
  • Prices for entry will be $2.00 for children, $3.00 for parents!
  • Food and drinks will also be for sale.

We are in need of prizes for Bingo night! We are looking for items such as gift certificates, gift baskets, event tickets, new toys, or anything else that children or adults can enjoy. If you (or your business) are interested in donating a prize, please contact Ms. Langley. mary.langley@fcps.edu. Prize donors will be recognized during Bingo Night. (Please note that we cannot accept cash donations for bingo prizes.)

The BVES Bingo Night is a fun and in-expensive way to support the teachers of BVES. All proceeds from the event will be given to teachers to use towards buying school supplies. So come for the food, come for the fun, and come for the prizes! If you're lucky, you might be yelling out BINGO!

Innisbrook Sales

The Belle View PTA would like to thank everyone for a very successful fundraiser
this fall! The Innisbrook catalog sales reached close to $18,000.00 and the PTA
will receive almost $8,000. This money goes to support programs such as the
cultural arts assemblies, field trips, technology, and much more. We would like
to applaud all those who sold items this year but especially mention the top 10
sellers who sold more than 40 items each! They are:

Elizabeth Bavin, Isabelle Milley, Ricky VanDerHyde, Annabelle Witt, Logan
Williams, Stanhope Fairbanks, Jacob McCracken, Sarah Mullins, Anna Capper, and
Ethan Brunton.

In addition, we would like to acknowledge the top selling class this year - Ms.
Betz's 3rd grade class! They will receive an ice cream party (date to be
decided).

Again, thank you for all your support!
A special Thank you to Crystal DeBerry and Cindy Slone for their efforts in making our Innisbrook fundraiser so successful.  You are both true Bobcats!
