Dear Belle View Parents,
It was wonderful to see everyone at the Bobcat Buffet. Many parents shared how nice it was to visit with the Belle View families. Please consider attending our future school events. The annual Thanksgiving Luncheon is scheduled to be held on November 18, 2010. We hope you attend this special event at our school. It is a wonderful time to eat lunch with your child and get to know their classmates. Please be on the lookout for flyers with further details as the luncheon gets closer. Belle View Elementary's Parent-Teacher Conferences were held last week. We hope this time to meet with your child's teacher was beneficial. Conferences are a great time to review and discuss your child's academic progress with your child's teacher. If you were not able to attend a parent-teacher conference, we strongly encourage you to make an appointment with your child's teacher. Sincerely,
Tom Kuntz Eleanor Contreras Principal Assistant Principal

Who knew we had so many green thumbs?
Take a few minutes to walk around the school grounds and you will see that the Outdoor Learning Committee has been hard at work, with the help of many Belle View families and teachers. At the Meet and Greet in the Garden on October 17th, the pond was given a face lift, and many new plants were added to the gardens around the school. If you look closely you will see some added habitats for our local wildlife and some new markers for our nature trail. A big thank you goes out to Mrs. Bush, her committee, and everyone who helped.

Fall Innisbrook Fundraiser Raises $8,000.00
Thank you so much for supporting Belle View's largest fundraiser of the year. We raised over $8,000.00 for the PTA, which will go primarily towards field trips and technology needs. The top sellers' big prize was getting a chance to grab as much cash as they could in 20 seconds at the Bobcat Buffet in our cash grab booth. Congratulations to Elizabeth Bavin who was Belle View's top Innisbrook seller. She sold a total of 93 items! 10 students qualified to get into the Cash grab by selling 40 items or more. 20 students qualified for a chance to get into the Cash Grab. This is about twice as many last year. The 9 students (along with Elizabeth Bavin) who qualified for the Cash grab were Dominique Ricard, Isabelle Milley, Summer Bossman, Sarah Sigg, Jared Ihrig, Stanhope Fairbanks, Gavin Luscombe, Sarah Mullins, and Sophie Fry. In all, these 15 students grabbed over $240.00!

Mini-Walk for the Homeless is a Huge Sucess Belle View students, parents, faculty and staff CONGRATULATIONS! Our first annual Mini Walk for the Homeless was an outstanding success. We achieved our goal of 500 participants and made $17,000 for Good Shepherd Housing Services. "Belle View's mini-walk will help GSH to earn an additional $50,000 from Fannie Mae!" said GSH's Director of Development Karen Jupiter. She said that with the $17,000 earned by Belle View, Good Shepherd will be able to fund one of the following: · 28 GSH Mortgages for a month · 8 months of agency insurance costs · A full summer of camp for 8 client children · Closing costs, fees and inspection costs for the purchase of four units · 8 months of utilities for GSH leased units The PTA wants to thank everyone who participated in this event. You can all feel very proud about helping to make our community a better place to live for so many families in need. Let's do it again next year! |

Savings on things you do every day!
Get ready for our second fundraiser of the school year, The Entertainment coupon book! This event will begin on November 10th and run through November 22nd. The Entertainment coupon book is a great way to save money on the things you do every day. For every coupon book sold, Belle View earns up to 50% profit. The Entertainment coupon book makes a great gift for the Holidays. "Out of town" books can also be ordered by friends and family living across the country.
Sales can also be made online by visiting www.entertainment.com . Belle View will receive the same profit with online ordering. Just be sure to provide the account number to friends and family placing online orders.
As an added incentive this year, students who sell 5 or more Entertainment coupon books will be invited to a special games2u event! Details will be provided at a later date.

Club 24
Where Playing the 24® Game is sheer genius!
Game mornings begin Tuesday, November 30, 2010
Students in grades 3-6 are invited to play The 24® Game, a mathematics enrichment activity which engages students to become critical thinkers and problem solvers. The goal of the 24® Game is, through individual and team play and competition to make math appealing accessible and fun.
In 24, students already know the answer. They just have to come up with the equation which, according to 24® Game inventor Robert Sun, "puts the emphasis on the process and patterns... the method behind the math." The game builds on itself as children's knowledge of basic facts improves, starting with addition and subtraction, then on to single and double digit multiplication and division, through fractions/decimals, and integers, and algebra/exponents.
Club 24 will be held on Tuesday mornings each week from 8:30 - 8:55am beginning November 30. Space is limited to 36 Belle View students in grades 3-6. Opportunity to represent Belle View at cluster and county competitions may be offered in the spring only to 4th-6th graders who participate in Club 24. Club 24 members are not required to participate in tournament play. . |

Little things that mean a lot
If you volunteer at Belle View, make sure you sign in and out at the front office. The school is required to complete a survey that includes the number of volunteer hours. The survey is then submitted to the FCPS Department of Communications and Community Outreach. |

Reuse. Reduce. Recycle.
Belle View Elementary School PTA has created a Recycling Committee to further enhance the recycling program at the school. The students and staff of BVES already take steps to recycle materials at school, but the PTA would like to help increase the recycling efforts in our school and our community.
The committee is kicking off the year by encouraging the students to celebrate America Recycles Day as a class. On November 15, America Recycles Day, the students will be encouraged to bring in a signed pledge and a reusable water bottle. The water bottle represents one step in reducing the use of plastic in our community. The pledge will be sent home and can be found on the America Recycles Day website. http://www.kab.org/site/PageServer?pagename=ard_homepage
The class with the highest percentage of signed pledges and reusable water bottles will win a pizza party, a field trip to a waste management facility and the opportunity as a class to film a documentary about the recycling facility that will be shown on BVTV. Additionally, each student who completes and returns a pledge will have their name entered in a drawing for a $300.00 gift card to a bicycle store and a $500.00 donation to their school to carry out recycling-related activities.
Please join the effort to reuse, reduce, and recycle by having your child sign this pledge and return it to school on November 15. . |

Did you know....
there is a clothes closet at Belle View? The PTA accepts donations of gently used clothes which are sorted and stored in a closet near the Health Room. If one of our children gets a bloody nose or spills milk on their clothes, the teacher can find something clean for them to put on from the closet.
The closet is currently in need of all sizes of boys and girls clothes. If you have any you would care to donate, please drop them by the office. |

A Walk With Friends and Family
By Lucy Helmlinger
The Good Shepherd Housing program started at 2:30 and we went to the cafeteria for an assembly. April Martin from Good Shepherd talked about how many families can lose their homes. She said over 1,000 teenagers can lose their home in a year.
At 3:00 we started the parade. We went around the backstop twice. It was storybook character day and everyone had to get their costumes on. One of the cutest costumes was a girl dressed like Velma from Scooby Doo. At the end we all went up the stairs by the office. Then we went back to our classrooms for dismissal.
The most fun part was getting to walk with friends and family. I hope we raise enough money to help the community in Fairfax County. |

SCA Food Drive The Thanksgiving food drive has been a huge success. The photo shows only a sampling of the goods collected to help the homeless, via the Salvation Army for the upcoming holiday months. If you missed an opportunity to send something in, you will have an opportunity to help this worthy cause during the month of December with an additional food drive. Please show the SCA, Salvation Army and the needy in our community that they have your support during a time that for many is a season of want. Let's fill the gap in typical Bobcat style, giving our best and showing those in need our commitment to, and awareness of those less fortunate.
