BDC Announces Grant Recipients!
The BDC is excited to announce the awardees of the first round of our 2012-2013 Small Grants Program. This round of grants will bring eight renovated retail spaces, six new office suites and four upper-story housing units to downtown! Congrats to the following downtown business and property owners!
Core Properties: $60,000 for Building Rehabilitation and Modernization for 302 S. Main St and 107-139 E. Front Street. The project involves renovations to six retail spaces, including a restaurant with a dining patio at 302 S. Main Street. This represents the renewal of a grant awarded to Core Properties in 2011. Jeff D. Wilkins: $30,000 for Building Rehabilitation and Modernization and Downtown Residential Development Incentive Program for 341 S. Main Street. When complete the building will be home to Sara-Anne Photography on the ground floor and to a residential unit on the upper story. Sara-Anne Caudle, owner of Sara-Anne Photography, was the winner of the BDC's Next Great Place business contest. Angela Ball: $11,053 for Building Rehabilitation and Modernization 118/122 E. Davis Street, which will result in an expansion of the Rusted Bucket Tavern. The next Small Grants Program deadline is August 28th. Contact us for full program information!

Annual Back to School Blast Taking Place This Weekend
Join Occasions as they celebrate their annual Back to School Blast at the Historic Downtown Depot this Saturday, August 18th from 11am - 4pm. There will be giveaways, demonstrations by community organizations, live music and free giveaways. Be sure to come around noon for the free hotdog lunch!

New! Movie Night at the Front Street Public House

Gingham Daisy Announces Dates for Warehouse Sale
The Gingham Daisy space located at 102 E. Front Street has been cleared of all merchandise, which means it's time for a Warehouse Sale! There were many items that were not damaged in the roof collapse, and owner Mary Smith has announced the date of a big sale.
Mark your calendars for September 14th and 15th. The location has yet to be announced, so stay tuned for more information!

Friday's on Front presents Mason Lovette Band
August 24th, 7 p.m. - 9 p.m.
Come hang out on the grassy lawn behind the depot on Friday, August 24th to hear the sounds of the Mason Lovette Band from 7p.m. - 9p.m. As always, this is a free concert and everyone is welcome! If you'd like to see the lineup for the entire summer, click this link.
The next concert is September 28th with Phoenix Highway. If you can't make it to August's showing, we hope to see you in September!

Parking Study Schedule Announced
The finalized schedule for the Downtown Parking Study has been announced. Please read below for a full account of what each date will entail:
9/17/2012 - City Council Worksession 7p.m., Room A/B of Kernodle Senior Center - The consultant from Carl Walker will present the draft parking plan to the City Council at their work session. The public is invited to attend.
10/18/2012 - Public Input Session 6:30p.m., City Council Chambers at City Hall - A second public input forum will be held for members of the public to voice their opinions about the proposed parking plans. Downtown business owners, property owners, and supporters are highly encouraged to attend this session.
11/5/2012 - City Council Worksession 7p.m., City Council Chambers- A consultant from Carl Walker will deliver final recommendations to City Council and staff based off of conducted research and public input. The public is invited to attend this session.

Each Saturday Morning 8am - Noon Behind Company Shops Market Coop All the produce, meat and goods sold at the farmers market are brought directly from the farm to you. All tomatoes, peppers, herbs, and grass-fed beef found at the market are produced locally, which means your purchase stays local! Stop by from 8a.m. - noon each Saturday morning in the parking lot between Webb Ave. and Front Street. If you're interested in becoming a vendor at the farmers market, please contact Market Manager Michael Touloupas by calling 336-260-2793 or visit the farmers market for complete bylaws and farmer applications.
