Burlington Downtown Corporation Update
Febuary 9th

Greetings!

Things have been very busy at the BDC. We recently attended the 2011 NC Main Street Conference in Shelby, NC. where the Burlington City Council and Manager were presented with a Main Street Champions Award. City Council Members Steve Ross and Jim Butler were joined by City Manager Harold Owen to accept the award.

If you haven't been downtown lately, come check us out. The beginning phases of our Streetscape Plan are currently being implemented. We also have just received word that we're being awarded with a grant of just over $100k from the N.C. Energy Office. Read below for more information!

Up to 12 Downtown Buildings Could Receive Energy Efficient Upgrades

business planThe Burlington Downtown Corporation has been awarded a grant of $101,794 to implement green upgrades to as many as 12 businesses and buildings. Funded by the N.C. Department of Energy through Recovery Act funds, $8.5 million were awarded to organizations throughout the state.

Gov. Bev Perdue said in a press release that these grants are estimated to inject $16.1 million into North Carolina's economy.

The BDC is extremely excited about the energy upgrades being brought to downtown. By becoming energy efficient, business and property owners will be saving money while helping to better the environment.

Streetscape Plan Beings Implementation
Corner 2.11
If you've driven along Front Street or Spring Street in the last few days, you might have noticed some changes! Lacebark Elm trees have been planted around the parking lot on the corner of Spring and Front Street. At the Company Shops Market gathering area, European Hornbeams have been planted. It's going to be a beautiful spring!
