Greetings!
The weather has turned crisp and it couldn't be clearer that Fall is upon us! This week we are celebrating the opening of a new watering hole and a business that's been with us for five years. We're also happy to bring you news about the 2011 Alamance Reads book choice. We hope you'll take the time to be a part of this community activity. Stay tuned for more information regarding the first annual Downtown Halloween Spooktacular that will take place Friday, October 29th. It's going to be a scary good time!

Rusted Bucket Tavern Opens on Davis Street
Downtown Burlington is now home to the newest bar in Burlington! The Rusted Bucket Tavern is located at 118 E. Davis Street in between Spring and Main Streets. The bar hosts a great variety of draft and bottled beers as well as a well stocked liquor assortment. Current beers on tap are Fat Tire, Pabst Blue Ribbon, Sam Adams Oktoberfest, Sweetwater 420 and Red Oak. Owner Angie Ball outfitted the interior with vintage signs and accessories, giving the space a refreshed, rustic feel. She hopes to also bring in local musicians to provide a change from songs played on the jukebox. The Rusted Bucket Tavern is open from 4p.m. until 2a.m. Tuesday - Sunday. Stop by and support this new, locally owned business.

Announcing Alamance Reads Selection for 2011
Friends of the Alamance County Public Libraries have announced their 2011 'Alamance Reads' book selection as The Pleasure Was Mine by North Carolina author Tommy Hays. Alamance Reads was started in an effort to bring citizens of the community together to meet and discuss a common text. Throughout the months of January and February, there will be author visits, writing workshops, art events and book discussions. The novel revolves around three generations of men learning to cope with their matriarch's battle with Alzheimer's. The story celebrates the familial bonds that can be made while experiencing a tragedy. Books will be available for check out or purchase at each library within the Alamance County system. May Memorial Library downtown will have approximately 1,000 copies for those interested in participating. For more information visit www.alamancereads.com. |
