Adopt - A - Planter Program
Last year, Main Street Wausau worked closely with the Parks Dept., the City's Dept. of Public Works and our businesses to develop and implement an Adopt - A - Planter program. This program provided businesses located adjacent to planters along Third and Washington Streets the opportunity to plant and maintain their planters as a way to add diversity and interest to our downtown landscape. o
In 2011, the Adopt - A - Planter program resulted in eight planters adopted by seven businesses. From The Mint Café's herb-filled planter to Evolution in Design's "Flower Girl" planter, it is easy to see that the work businesses put into their planters conveyed their personalities

and their sense of ownership in our community.
I am delighted to report that as a
result of the program's success last year, the Adopt - A - Planter program is back! This year, any planters eligible for adoption that are not adopted by businesses located adjacent to them can be adopted by any business in the District!
Would you like to adopt-a-planter?
For more information on adopting-a-planter contact me at 715.845.1328 or by email.
Thank you to The Mint Cafe, Evolutions in Design, The First American Center, The Storefront Learning Center, Wausau Art & Framing, The Lamplighter, and Allister Deacon's for adopting planters last year!

Main Street Wants YOU!
All of the work Main Street Wausau does - from promoting the District to managing grant programs - is made possible by our volunteers! Nearly 30 volunteers that are passionate about developing and maintaining the River District as a great place to live, work, shop, play, and invest serve on one or more of our committees.
Our volunteers find their work satisfying because it offers opportunities to:
- Meet new people
- Learn about the River District
- Put their unique skills to work developing programs and projects that strengthen our downtown community.
If you, too, have a passion for the River District and a desire to serve, visit WausauRiverDistrict.com or contact me to learn more about our various committees and what it means to be a Main Street Volunteer. You don't need a particular skill set to volunteer, just a willingness to roll up your sleeves! New volunteers are welcomed year-round.

An EVENTful Year Ahead
This year, Wausau Area Events, kicked off their year-long season of events much earlier in the calendar year with their first annual Winterfest! On Saturday, Feb. 11th, Winterfest brought hundreds of winter enthusiasts to the River District. Event-goers enjoyed "sledding" down a snow sculpture, watching blocks of ice transform into works of art, being taste testers in a chili contest (a fundraiser for Wausau Area Events), and so much more!
Whether you've got a retail calendar to plan, or you want to make certain to entertain clients during one of the many fantastic events coordinated by Wausau Area Events, click here to download an outline of their calendar of events or bookmark WausauAreaEvents.org in your web browser.
