Team Spotlight--Hovey Anders
Plus Inc. has been servicing office equipment in the Upstate since 1958. Much of our focus these days is on copiers and computers, so if those are the equipment items that we service for your company, you may have missed out on meeting one of our favorite employees. However, if you have any mechanical equipment that we service for you such as typewriters or time clocks, then you have probably met this wonderful employee, Hovey Anders.
Hovey's work experience began at Monaghan Mill in Greenville as an assistant fixer in the Picker Room. In 1960, he started working for Harper Brothers where he became a certified IBM typewriter technician and serviced other equipment as well. Hovey joined the Plus Team in 1994 where he has continued to service IBM typewriters and other brands such as Royal and Brother, fax machines, time clocks, paper handling equipment and printers. His excellent troubleshooting and mechanical skills allow him to excel at his favorite aspect of his job which he describes as "working with the customer to solve their service needs." Hovey added, "Over the years, I have watched the office equipment industry move from mechanical products to electronic products and typewriters being replaced by computers and printers." Despite these changes, Hovey has adapted and works on newer equipment as well as the older equipment that some customers still have. Even if he has never worked on a particular piece of equipment, he is always willing and eager to try. Hovey feels the most important aspect of his job is "pleasing the customer" and he remarked, "I enjoy being part of the Plus family, and I also enjoy the challenge of working on various types of office equipment." Hovey's co-workers describe him as "a true gem" and "one of the nicest people you will ever meet," and everyone agrees that "he is always smiling and always friendly." Not only is Hovey a wonderful technician, he also helps build morale in the office with his positive attitude.
Outside of work, Hovey enjoys gardening, traveling and spending time with his grandchildren. He and his wife are active members of East Pickens Baptist Church.
If you have any comments for Hovey, please email him at hovey@plusinc.net. |
Handy Service Tip #6
To add toner or not to add toner......that is the question!
Are you experiencing light copies? When the print begins to lighten, many customers' first response is to add toner. However, this may not be the answer. According to Plus Inc. Service Manager, Don Mitchell, there are many other factors that need to be considered. Don explains, "If copies are light and the toner low indicator light is not on, there is a 98% chance that the machine has a technical issue so adding toner will not help! Usually the customer needs a trained technician to resolve the problem." So, next time your copies are light, please place a service call! Call 864-242-9090 or go to the Plus website and log a service call on the "Place a Service Call" tab. |

Plus Inc. offers scanning equipment as well as application software that would allow you to create and complete forms and much more. Looking for a way to edit a PDF document? We offer solutions for that too!

Computer Bytes--
Robert Bourguignon, Manager of IT Services
Watch Out for the Grinches in the Cloud!
"It's the most wonderful time of the year!" Unfortunately, spammers and other malicious hacks are out there singing this same song. Spam and phishing scams are at their highest levels during the holiday season. Many email holiday wishes are legitimate and safe, however very crafty scammers can fool you into clicking on links which may lead to spyware or a virus. Take extra caution before opening any emails that appear suspicious. When in doubt, don't open the email.
We recommend you always have virus protection software with the most recent updates running on your computers and servers to help fight this battle now and throughout the year. Please contact us if you would like to know more about the Trend Micro virus protection suites that we offer. You can contact me directly at 864-242-9090 or via email at robertb@plusinc.net. Happy Holidays! |
Customer Focus--United Way of Spartanburg
Each month, Plus Inc. focuses on one of our non-profit customers, and each month we are again amazed and excited at the involvement of these organizations in their communities. This month, we are proud to spotlight United Way of the Piedmont in Spartanburg. United Way works with their partners to find and support solutions to critical health and human service needs in the community and invest over $3 million annually in more than 100 programs.
Right now, United Way of the Piedmont is recruiting and training volunteers for the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. Going into its seventh year in Spartanburg County, the VITA program helps low-moderate income families and seniors by preparing their tax returns free of charge. During the 2010 tax season, volunteers prepared 1,150 federal returns and helped local citizens bring back $1,453,000 in refunds and credits to the community.
At this time, the United Way is in critical need of volunteers. "No experience is necessary!" assures VITA Project Manager Mary Catherine Mitchell. "Volunteers receive training and certification in federal tax return preparation." If you are interested in learning more about VITA, please contact Mary Catherine Mitchell at mmitchell@uwpiedmont.org or 864-582-7556 for more information.
