Don Mitchell Team Spotlight--Don Mitchell
 Service Department Manager

At Plus Inc., we're proud to employ some of our nation's veterans.  One such employee is our Service Manager, Don Mitchell.  Don served in the United States Air Force where he was trained in radio and electronics repair and as a Forward Air Controller.  He later became the Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge of Squadron Training.  After leaving the Air Force, Don attended the University of South Carolina and then spent a brief time as an Industrial Mechanic in the Food Service Industry before receiving technical training for Ricoh, Konica, Savin, Minolta, Mita, Canon, Oce and Sharp machines.

In the five years since joining the Plus team, Don has seen many changes in the industry.  "In the early years," he is fond of saying, "it was all about mobility and fast pace.  But now it's the challenge of solving multiple problems on a budget.  In today's economy, we want to ensure that we are exceeding each customer's expectations, with a constant awareness of cost effectiveness of expenditures for ourselves and our customers.  As the size of our coverage grows, so does the challenge.  We cover the entire Upstate, so part of my job involves coordinating the number of technicians in the field versus the amount of geography we cover.  It requires a vigilant effort to ensure that miles and hours are not wasted."

Like all of our employees, Don is a consummate team player and is quick to give credit where he feels it is due by adding, "As the Service Manager at Plus, Inc., I am pleased and proud to be able to say that it's only because of the dedicated technical staff and their willingness to support and cover each other that I and my department are able to operate at the level that few ever get to experience.  We are a team!"

Handy Service Tip #3--Paper Jams

Paper Jams are one of the most common problems with copiers and printers.  One cause of paper jams is misloaded paper.  It is best to fan the stack of paper before inserting into paper tray.  Always use dry, unwrinkled paper.  If you encounter a paper jam, remove the paper from the paper tray and inspect the edges and corners for damage.  Fan the paper, and then reload the tray.  Check the paper guides to ensure they are not too tight or too loose.  If the guides are not adjusted properly, the paper will have a high tendency to jam in the paper path.

If your paper feed rollers and paper transport rollers ever appear to be dirty, contact our service department for a cleaning as dirty rollers will contribute to jams.  Also, be sure to adjust the guides and set the correct paper size when switching the paper between trays.

Plus in the Community--
Habitat for Humanity, Spartanburg

Each month, we are saluting one of our non-profit customers who are instrumental in improving our community.  This month's featured organization is part of an international effort to build safe, affordable shelter for those in need.  Habitat for Humanity of Spartanburg (HFHS) is a life-changing Christian ministry that builds decent, affordable homes in partnership with Spartanburg County families in need.  With the help of volunteers and community organizations, Habitat for Humanity of Spartanburg has built 87 homes in Spartanburg since 1987.  This past weekend, ten employees from Plus Inc. had the opportunity to assist on a build day at a house in Spartanburg.  Our group, along with some other volunteers, hung sheet rock on the walls of several rooms.  Though many of us were new to this type of work, we quickly caught on and felt like prosHabitat Team at the end of the day!  Some of us discovered muscles we didn't know we had!

Tom Webster, Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity of Spartanburg, was at the job site on Saturday as well.  He told us more about their organization explaining that not only is Habitat for Humanity building homes in Spartanburg County, but they are also setting up a learning center to assist homeowners, many of whom are single moms, complete their education, gain job skills and learn about financial management and home maintenance.

When asked why he volunteered for Plus Inc. Build Day, Robert Bourguignon said "It's a great way to give back to the community.  It feels good to know I am helping a single mom provide a safe environment to raise her children."  Becky Cooper added, "We are all connected and it helps me remember that I am part of the whole."

Dear David...

Question: Our boss says that he thinks we need a multi-functional device in our office.  What are your thoughts?

Answer: "The new era of the copier."  You've most likely heard the terminology in recent years.  All-in-one, MFP or Multifunction printer-scanner-copier-fax.  Many of our customers have gotten one.  Why are they the new era?  They will save you a lot of money and cost a whole lot less to operate while at the same time get the job done quicker.
In this economy, doing more with less is an absolute.  Orginally, these machines were okay.  However, they typically were not to be as productive and efficient as the stand alone Copier, Printer or Fax.  Well that has all changed!  More and more companies are seeing and enjoying the benefits of having their main machine do all these functions.  Many others are getting ones that do color also.
You can cut down tremendously on space and you use a lot less electricity as well.  They scan to your computers and email fast---and I mean fast---at the blink of an eye and it is so simple that anyone can do it.
They send faxes and can receive faxes electronically.  These machines copy and print so fast and efficiently that they are incredible.  I can't tell you how many times after a customer has gotten one that they can not believe how simple to use they are.  They tell me over and over again about how glad they are that they got one and how much more efficiently their office operates.  The key is to get a machine that is going to meet your needs.  Many times customers will buy the smaller units at the discount store.  They are typically inexpensive, slow and the ink cartridges are very expensive.  When we evaluate your needs, we will recommend the right machine that will allow you to save money and time as well.
