2011

2001- 2010

Greetings!

This week we heard of the passing of Joan Smith (see article below). I have known Joan for over 20 years. She was always a gracious lady. For many years she worked as a stroke and turn judge, and much of that time she was in great pain, but she wanted to help. We brought her a chair to sit on, and she would watch the turn end of the pool.

She was always watching her husband Richard. If Richard was trying to do too much, she would tell him to slow down. When Richard had a heart attack at a Pacific Masters Championships, she ran to be at his side.

They had been long time members of the Pacific Masters Committee, when the meeting was in Walnut Creek, they would drive down from Sacramento to attend.

God Bless you Joan Smith. Rest in Peace.

Kind regards,

-michael

Pacific Masters Meeting
18 April

Joan Smith, a long time Pacific Masters volunteer and Ransom Arthur recipient passed away at home with her husband Richard and family by her side on April 10th. She was 90 years old. She had experienced health issues for some time.

Joan was a valued member of Pacific Masters. She attended our monthly committee meetings, proof read all the Pacific Masters Top Ten listings and compared them with the USMS Top Ten lists to be sure that all our swimmers who deserved to be on the national listings were included. She had an eagle eye and was a natural for this task. She volunteered many years at the Lake Berryessa Swim to process new Pacific Masters registrations. Joan served on the Pacific Masters Executive Committee as Vice Chairman of Administration.
