Greetings!

The monthly Pacific Masters Swimming meeting will be Wednesday at 7PM. It is a conference call meeting. If you are interested in attending, please contact Nancy Ridout

The first Founders Day meet will be held at College of San Mateo and the PacMasters Championships will be at UC Santa Cruz. The Pacific Masters Swimming Open Water Championships will be held at the Russian River 16 July (The entry fee is $45.00 - there was an error in one of the flyers).

Thank you to the Coaches Committee and their chair Cokie Lepinski for organizing the Excel Weekend for Coaches and Swimmers. It was a great program with Rowdy Gaines speaking to the coaches on Friday night and Dave Durden of UC Berkeley speaking about their championships season and then working with the swimmers with the drills that are used by the Bear swimmers on Sunday.

Pacific Masters Swimming welcomes anyone who would like to gain and maintain fitness through swimming and encourages programs to foster this mission.

Swimming World's Best Masters 2010

Congratulations to Laura Val who was recognized by Swimming World Magazine for her achievements during 2010 and was named one of Swimming World's World's best Masters for 2010. Laura's appearance in the Top Twelve moves her into sole possession for the most Top12 honors with five.

Long time Pacific Masters Swimmer (who now moved to Texas) Carolyn Boak made the Top Twelve list for the first time. Suzanne Heim-Bowen was a runner up to the Top 12. Congratulation to Laura, Suzanne and Carolyn.
Swim Across America

Swim Across America, Inc., [SAA] is dedicated to raising money and awareness for cancer research, prevention and treatment through swimming- related events. With the help of hundreds of volunteers nationwide and past and current Olympians, SAA is helping find a cure for cancer through athleticism, community outreach and direct service.

The San Francisco Bay Area Swim Across America is looking to raise $300,000. The San Francisco Bay swim is an SAA favorite. Swimmers take a boat from Pier 9 to Alcatraz and the Golden Gate Bridge, a great scenic tour of the bay with time to bond with friends, old and new.  They will jump in under the Golden Gate Bridge, a dramatic and unique entry point rarely experienced.  Swimmers will head into Crissy Field Beach, a total of around 1.5 miles. A great way to swim and raise funds for cancer research.
Orinda Aquatic helps
Special Needs kids

Orinda Aquatics is working with REACH (Resources, Education, Activites, Choomunity and Houseing) to raise money for special needs swimming. There is a Aquathon at the Hercules Swimming Pool Sunday 18 September.

The groups goals are to provide safe, quality living environments where our residents learn self efficiency and live with dignity and respect. They strive to bring significantly more joy to the lives of the developmentally challenged of the West Contra Costa and Northern Alameda counties.

Tri-California Promotion

The 325 swimmers that participated in the Alcatraz Challenge Swim on May 22nd were blessed with one of the most beautiful days on the San Francisco Bay.  On Saturday the day before the race it was marginal and looked like it was going to be a gloomy race day.  The test swim went just ok as there was much wind and chop.  On race day it was a different story with a bright sunny day.   The fastest swimmer of the day was Sophie Heyman, 18 from Scotts Valley followed by Nick Hopman, 33 from San Francisco.  Third place was Jake Rollo, 14, from Alamo Ca.

The next Tri-California Events are the San Francisco Triathlon at Treasure Island on July 8-10, and the Alcatraz Challenge Aquathlon and Swim on July 17th.  There is still space available and as Pacific Maters swimmers you are eligible for a promotional discount.
