USF Valentines Day Meet
Pacific Masters largest indoor meet of the season. Enter on line until Friday night.

The USF Valentines Day meet is the largest indoor meet of the season. It consists of all the 50 and 200's, as well as the World Championship centipede swim (Where world records are made to be broken). The meet is Saturday 12 February. You can enter on line until Friday night 11 February 11:59PM PST.

Coach of the Year
Coach of the Year nominations are due 14 February.

At the annual meeting, the Committee voted to change the Coach of the Year nomination and award date of presentation. The award will now be made at the Pacific Masters Short Course Yards Championships. Nominations should be sent to Michael Moore, chairman of Pacific Masters by 14 February. Pacific Masters has many great coaches, write a nomination and let the world know how you feel about your coach.

There is normally only one Coach of the Year Award given. Anyone can nominate a coach. You are encouraged to review the Coach of the Year award nomination procedures. Besides a nomination letter, up to four supporting letters may accompany the nomination.

Tamalpias Aquatic Masters holds this postal event of Jon Steiner who helped start this event and died too young.

The mile (either the 1650 Yards or 1500 Meters) can be swum any time until 28 February. You must have a 2011 USMasters Swimming to be eligible to participate.

The Walnut Creek Intensive Training
The 24th Walnut Creek Intensive Training Camp will be the weekend of  March 4-6.

IHead Coach Kerry O'Brien and his Walnut Creek coaches, along with Brian Stack of the Manatees and Stu Kahn of Davis Aquatic Masters will be the coaches Walnut Creek Intensive Training Camp,  2 1/2 days of dedicated to improved swimming performance through strenuous conditioning, technique instruction and distance specificity.

 

The ITC is limited to 50 swimmers and has always sold out. If you are interested in participating, you should register ASAP. 

The Rinconada Meet
The Rinconada Meet will be held 12 March at the Rinconada Pool

The annual spring Rinconada Meet will be held March 12th at the Rinconada Pool in Palo Alto. 

Protecting Athletes:
The Open Water Safety Conference
Pacific Masters Swimming and United States Masters Swimming are partnering to present a conference on "Protecting the Athletes: The Open Water Safety Conference"

 

Pacific Masters and United States Masters Swimming are partnering to present  Protecting Athletes: The Open Water Safety Conference which brings together open water and triathlon event directors, and event competitors to discuss the best practices and case studies in risk management and open water event safety.

The goals of this conference are to help the sport understand how to best plan for and ensure safety in open water swims conducted in oceans, lakes and rivers for swimmers of all ages, backgrounds and abilities. 
 

The Strawberry Canyon Meet
The Strawberry Canyon Short Course Yards Meet will be held Sunday, 27 March at the Spieker Pool

The Strawberry Canyon Aquatic Masters Short Course Yards meet will be held on Sunday 27 March. You must preenter for the 500. You may deck enter for the rest of the meet. You can enter on-line until 23 March at 11:59PM.

2010 Service Awards
Nominations for the 2010 Pacific Masters Service Awards are due at the March meeting

At the March monthly meeting, we will be nominating  and choosing the Contributor of the Year, the  Appreciation Award recipient, the Distinguished  Service award and the recipient of the Personal  Achievement Award. 

Contributor of the Year Award 
The purpose of this award is to recognize outstanding contributions to Masters  Swimming during the calendar year preceding the year in which the award is presented. 

Personal Achievement Award 
The purpose of this award is to recognize long  term dedication to our program and reward  noticeable improvement in one's own skills and  times 

Distinguished Service Award 
The purpose of this award is to recognize  outstanding contributions to Pacific Masters  Swimming. 

Appreciation Award 
The purpose of this award is to express special  thanks to individuals or groups who have made significant contributions to PMS.

California Senior Games Championships

Swimming State Championships on Saturday, March 26 (8:00AM start) at Avery Aquatic Center, Stanford University - for male and female athletes age 50 and over. First, Second and Third place awards by age group. Register on line at www.bayareaseniorgames.org or call 650.323.9400 x 18 for an entry blank or more information. Entry deadline is March 15, 2011.

 

The 2011 California Senior Games Championships (also known as the Bay Area Senior Games) with 24 sports and an expected 2000 athletes are presented by BASOC - the Bay Area Sports Organizing Committee.

Thoughts and Prayers

Hilda Buel a long time member of San Mateo Marlins passed away on Sunday, Jan. 16, 2011. She was a long and faithful Marlin. Hilda was born Feb.25th 1914. A service will be held at the Transfiguration Episcopal Church, 3900 Alameda de Las Plugas   Feb. 12th. 2011 at 1 PM.

San Mateo Masters is seeking a full time head swim coach 


San Mateo Masters is a 200+ adult swim team located in San Mateo, Ca on the campus of the College of San Mateo. Our team operates out of 2 brand new pools (50 meter Olympic and 25 yard Instructional) and is part of the San Mateo Athletic Club. 
Potential to teach private lessons, classes and clinics as well. 
Must be dynamic, passionate about swimming & experienced leading a masters swim team. 
Must possess formal swimming coaching qualifications, current CPR, First Aid and Water Safety certifications

Assistant Jr Aquatics Coach 
(The Olympic Club)
 
Part-time/Non-exempt position. The Olympic Club Junior Swim Program, a competitive year round swim program, is seeking a passionate swim coach with experience working with a variety of age groups.   

 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: Running individual group practices emphasizing proper technique and conditioning of swimmers ages 8-12 years old. Candidates must be able to instill the concepts of teamwork and sportsmanship into each participant. Also, attend City and USA Swimming meets, assist in preparing swimmers for before and during competitions, Be a positive influence to all swimmers and help instill an early love for the sport. Work closely with the Aquatics Director to provide feedback and develop strategies that will promote the success of the swimmers. Communicate with parents as needed.  

 

Minimum qualifications:  4+ years of coaching experience. USA Swimming Coach member with minimum current education and safety requirements (CPR, First Aid, AED and Safety Training for Coaches or Life Guard Certification; level 1 ASCA certification. Ability to motivate athletes in a positive manner. Strong work ethic and ability to work independently. Excellent communication skills; Intermediate Microsoft Office and Outlook necessary. Available to work weekdays 3pm - 7pm and some weekends.  Hourly salary based on experience.

 

 

Swimming in San Francisco Bay
The Dolphin Club in San Francisco offers a monthly introductory course on swimming in San Francisco Bay.


For new swimmers and for anyone who wants to brush up or learn more.


Held once a month, this hour-and-a-half session includes materials about Aquatic Park geography, tides and currents, swimming in cold water and how to avoid hypothermia, our non-human friends in the water, and lots more. 1-hour chat with Q & A followed by an optional group swim.


 

Non-members welcome, with payment of $6.50 day-use fee.Must be 18 years or older, must be able to comfortably swim 400 yards in the pool.
