July Luncheon
Judith Overcash Wows with Dali Presentation
 |
Judith Overcash gave a facinating talk about the architecture of the Dali. |
When a person has 15 years of experience as a docent at the Salvadore Dali Museum, a wealth of information has been gleaned. Judith Overcash, of Safety Harbor, has that background, and shared it with the Chamber members at the monthly luncheon on July 20th at the Safety Harbor Resort & Spa.
Fascinating details concerning the design and construction of the unique new building in downtown St. Petersburg were explained, and we all learned new and interesting details about Dali, the master of Surrealism. The Museum structure itself is listed in AOL Travel News as "One of the top buildings you have to see before you die."
What a wonderful body of knowledge Judith shared with us, and what an educational and fun event the program proved to be. Thanks, Judith, for a truly special presentation. |
August Luncheon - It was "All About You"
Once a quarter, the Chamber features brief talks by members who are present at the monthly luncheon at the Safety Harbor Resort & Spa. In August, we carried on the tradition. There is always a good turnout, and the program often introduces us to new representatives from our various participants. For instance: Julie Johnson, of Eight O'Clock Theatre, Gabrielle Snapp, of Francis Wilson Playhouse, Jim Nixon of Ruth Eckerd Hall, Regina AaMacha of Safety Harbor Musicians Co-op. The performing arts are alive and well in Safety Harbor, with such a distinguished delegation! Of course, Visual Arts were well represented by Carol Zieres, faithful volunteer at the Chamber, who has an exhibit right now at the Safety Harbor Library.
Non-Profits featured: Gus Perrott of Espirito Santo Church, Reed Rue of the Florida Sheriffs Youth Ranch, Tammy Ashe of the American Cancer Society, Janet Hooper of Safety Harbor Neighborhood Family Center. Each of them presented facts and figures about their needs, and how we all can help with financial as well as "time" gifts.
Real Estate related members included: Tom and Darlene Trieste of Renaissance Real Estate, Charlene West of Master Restoration, Bob Wisnewski of On The Gulf Home Inspection Services. And, to add extra interest, a varied collection of categories including: Jamie Belden and Tiffany Bright of College Nannies & Tutors, Eric Hollar of BB&T Bank, Shana Spears and Cali Jablon of Greektown Grille, and Dr. Blake Moores, DDS, who gave us info on the latest dental services and products. The program also included: Marie Padavich of Safety Harbor Resort & Spa, new member Debbie Truche of Curves (in downtown Safety Harbor), and Peggy Klespies represented Northwood Travel.
There is always interesting new information at these member produced meetings, and the next luncheon features an appreciative and fond farewell to the 2010-2011 Board of Directors, and a warm welcome and introduction of the 2011-2012 incoming Board on September 21. This is a "must see" luncheon you certainly should attend! |
Third Friday July Was Hot!
Inside and outside, a hot night was the July 3rd Friday. The chamber lobby was filled with displays by SunTrust Bank, ably presented by Bryan Centers, Vice President and Branch Manager of the McMullen Booth/Enterprise location. The new ad campaign for SunTrust is "we're still here"...a welcome thought in days of uncertainty. Contact Bryan at bryan.centers@suntrust.com.

Ronald and Corliss Gadsden, owner/managers of Postal Annex+ with Chamber volunteers Camilla Weinandt and John Hartnett |
Ronald and Corliss Gadsden, new members and owner/managers of PostalAnnex+ joined the fun, and were happy to be introduced to Chamber visitors. Postal Annex+ is also in Northwood Plaza, at the same intersection as SunTrust Bank. Offering shipping, mailbox rentals, Notary services, packaging, passport photos, Faxing, key cutting, and many more services, they are a welcome new business on that busy corner. Contact Postal Annex+ at 727-400-6801, pa10013@postalannex.com or www.postalannex.com/10013.
Many visitors came by to drink cool water and sample cookies, and look over the business cards and brochures of Chamber members. As the evening progressed, the rains came down, and the Chamber proved to be a shelter from the storm. The theme of the July 3rd Friday was Harboritaville, and Safety Harbor Professional Firefighters were the beneficiaries. |

Marker 8 Tiki Bar at Beso Del Sol Knows How To Throw a Party!
 |
Stacy Roth and Irene Gott |
Wow, what a great time we all had when the Business After Hours was held at Marker 8 Tiki Bar and Beso Del Sol, 1420 Bayshore Blvd. Dunedin. As we approached, we could hear the music of Regina AaMacha and her husband Tom Bent. (Later, we heard the toe tapping rhythms of Big Jim Allen. They were all from The Safety Harbor Musicians Co-op, also Chamber members.)
 |
NJ with Big Jim Allen and volunteer Barb Czech |
Out on the Tiki Bar deck overlooking St. Joseph Sound, with the breezes blowing, sounds of jovial conversation, and delicious thirst-quenchers from the Tiki Bar, we enjoyed the company and the scenery. Later, Russ Latimer, owner/partner of Marker 8, and Kelli Brazier of Beso Del Sol toured us through the luxurious accommodations of Beso Del Sol.

August Business After Hours - Fill A Heart Group
What a group showed up for the Fill A Heart Group's hosting of the monthly networking event held in August inside the Chamber! Laura Cordiviola had invited the whole gang, and really pitched a party. Big sandwiches, home-made potato salad and rice pudding, snacks, crackers, all sorts of nibblies, plus beautiful craft articles to preview their big show in October at Ruth Eckerd Hall. Of course, the famous heart pillows which are their trademark were prominently on display. Christmas decorations in quilted spheres, and avant garde doll faces with dramatic hair and jewelry caught every eye. You need to make plans now to attend their Third Annual Festival of Hope and pre-show party in the Margarete Heye Room at Ruth Eckerd Hall on November 12th. Contact Laura at 727-247-8498 or laura.a.cordiviola@fillaheart.org. |

Stepping with The Stars Another Smash Hit!
 |
Alex Pena of Dance Tonight with Heather Sakelariou |
The stars shone brightly on August 26th at The Safety Harbor Resort & Spa and the compliments are still coming in! The dancers and their teachers from Dance Tonight Studio thrilled us with their impressive performances and our lovely and very witty Master of Ceremonies, Virginia Johnson from Bay News 9, kept the evening rolling at a perfect pace. The Spa's ambiance, food and service were top notch in keeping with this classy event.
Congratulations to Heather Radke on winning the Grand Championship as a result of Judges points and people's choice votes! Thank you for your commitment to this gala fundraiser!

Harbor Pets Grooming
Some things are just meant to be. When Mary Best, now Mary Neville, left Providence, RI to go to college in Southern California, her plans were for a career in Administration of Justice. But when Mary met and fell in love with Kelly Neville, a surfer in the summer, and a ski bum in the winter, her plans drastically changed! They got married in Steamboat Springs, Colorado.
As time passed for the newlyweds, Mary developed an abiding love of animals, and so became a Certified Dog Groomer at "It's A Dog's World School of Grooming" in Arizona. Then, many years as a groomer in North Carolina gave Mary the experience to become an expert groomer of all breeds of dogs and cats, plus the day to day activity fostered a variety of styles and techniques!
Love also played the starring role in determining where Mary, Kelly, and Dominick (their son) would wind up. When they decided to move to Florida, a happy circumstance occurred when the Nevilles walked from Crispers to the gazebo in Safety Harbor, saw a For Sale sign, and fell in love with this charming, friendly town! Now Kelly stays busy in construction, while Mary cares for your precious pets.
Call Mary today for grooming... or how about Doggy Day Care at only $1.00 an hour while you go shopping, have lunch, or go see the manatees? Harbor Pets Grooming is at 122 4th Ave. N, just beside the Gazebo in downtown Safety Harbor. 727-724-4104. www.harborpetsgrooming.com harborpetsgrooming@gmail.com

Debbie Truche receives plaque from Darlene Trieste & Normajeanne Anderson |
Curves
When you first meet slender, graceful Debbie Truche, it's easy to believe that she is the owner/ manager of Curves, specializing in 30-minute workouts and weight management for women. Debbie is a New England native, and just migrated to Florida a year ago. A well established career in graphic arts is her business background, but as time, tide, and climate changed, so did her inclination toward the personally rewarding activity of helping others become her main focus. Attending school for Holistic Nutrition started her on the way to the purchase of the Curves franchise, and the gratification of assisting others to a healthier lifestyle.
Curves is a different kind of business, focusing on the camaraderie of a "woman's only clientele", with companionship and support from staff, and equating to having one's own personal trainer for free. Most Wellness Program insurances, as well as Medicare, are accepted at Curves, including the famous Silver Sneakers method. Curves started in the late 1990's, and now has 10,000 locations worldwide....they must be doing something very right!
Debbie invites you to the Grand Opening Week starting September 26th, from 9 am - 1 pm and 3 pm - 7 pm daily, for a First Visit Discount to the new and beautiful location at 327 Main Street, downtown Safety Harbor... Contact her at 727-386-4100 or dtruche@nutrijourney.com. |
