Greetings!

The purpose of this report is to update the members on the activities of the EDC and the general economic development activity in the area impacting southwest Johnson County.

BNSF Intermodal:  The work continues on the intermodal.  The new opening date is September 2013.

City of Edgerton plans sewer expansion and new interchange:  The City of Edgerton has selected Burns and McDonnell for the wastewater design build project supporting the BNSF Intermodal.  CAS Construction was selected along with Burns and McDonnell.

The bid for construction of the new interchange at Homestead was awarded to Clarkson.  The completion date is September 2013.

New Business:  Superior Feed Ingredients, Inc. is in the process of beginning operations at New Century AirCenter.  Based out of Minnesota, they will export grain and feed products back to the Far East.

Activity:  In February, I will be attending MODEX, a conference for Manufacturing, Supply Chain and distribution trade show in Atlanta.

I will also be attending RILA (Retail Industry Leaders Association) Conference.  We are partnering with KC SmartPort for both conferences and John Smith from LS Commercial will be attending RILA.

Southwest Johnson County EDC Annual Meeting: 
The Annual Meeting for the EDC was held Wednesday, January 11.  CenturyLink hosted this year's Annual Meeting and there were seventy-seven in attendance.

USD #231 bond issue passes:  Voters have approved a $72 million bond issue.  The bond will pay for two new schools, renovations to existing schools as well as technology upgrades.
