The purpose of this report is to update the Members on activities of the EDC and the general economic development activity in the area impacting Southwest Johnson County.  

 

BNSF IntermodalThe response to the tour of the intermodal site, after the EDC Quarterly meeting, has been very good.  It was great exposure.  We even received two new members from the event.  Thank you to the BNSF, they provided the buses and tour guides.   

The West Bridge, looking west from Four Corners Rd. along vacated 191st Street.  The West Bridge statistics: 3 track, 25 ft. high, 238 ft. long (7 span/60 beams).
 

 

 

 

City of Edgerton plans sewer expansion:  The  City of Edgerton has selected Burns and McDonnell for the wastewater design build project supporting the BNSF Intermodal.. CAS Construction was selected along with Burns and McDonnell. 

 

City of Gardner:  Several businesses are planning expansions or new locations and have been talking to the planning department .

 

CoreNet:  I will be attending CoreNet (Commercial Real Estate) conference in early November with the Kansas City Area Development Council (KDADC) and the Kansas Department of Commerce. 

 

Quarterly Meeting a Big Success: The Southwest Johnson County EDC Quarterly Membership Meeting on Wednesday, September 14th at Mildale Farm was a big success.  Approximately 170 people enjoyed the networking, lunch remarks by Governor Brownback and tour of the BNSF Intermodal site.  Special guests included Kansas Governor Sam Brownback and Kansas Secretary of Transportation Deb Miller, along with Carl Ice, President of BNSF.  The Governor discussed the Intermodal facility and its importance to economic development in the State of Kansas as well as his administration's commitment to economic development.  EDC also unveiled its new brand image and explained why in Southwest Johnson County, "Business Moves Here."  A special thanks to our sponsors, Mayor Roberts and his team at the City of Edgerton, BNSF for providing buses and tour guides, and Michael Meadors and his staff at the Johnson County Park and Recreation for allowing us to use the Mildale Farm facilities for our event.

Upcoming Events:

KCADC Annual Meeting:  The Annual Meeting for the Kansas City Area Development Council will be held at the Kansas City Convention Center on Friday, November 4th.

 

EDC Board Planning Session:  The Board will hold its Planning Session for 2012 on Wednesday, November 9th.  Place and time to be determined.

 

Southwest Johnson County EDC Annual Meeting:  The Annual meeting for the EDC will be Wednesday, January 11th.  The format will remain the same as last year.  The committee met and discussed location and program.
