The purpose of this report is to update the Members on the activities of the EDC and the general economic development activity in the area impacting Southwest Johnson County.
Mark Your Calendar: Please make plans to attend the Southwest Johnson County EDC Quarterly Membership Meeting on Wednesday, September 14th at Mildale Farm, Edgerton, KS. from 12:00 to 1:15 p.m. Special guests will be Kansas Governor Sam Brownback and Kansas Secretary of Transportation Deb Miller, along with Carl Ice, President of BNSF, to share an update on the Intermodal facility and its importance to economic development in the State of Kansas. BNSF Intermodal: The work continues on the intermodal. You can see the earthmovers moving dirt and the foundation to a building taking shape. DeLong Grain has met with Edgerton officials regarding building plans and timing.
City of Edgerton plans sewer expansion: The City of Edgerton has selected Burns and McDonnell for the wastewater design build project supporting the BNSF Intermodal.. CAS Construction was selected along with Burns and McDonnell.
City of Gardner: The City of Gardner has hired Springsted to coordinate the search for a new City Manager. The first round of interviews has been completed.
Johnson County Partnership: The County has put money in the budget for some marketing activities. The Johnson County Partnership has been tasked with the job and the emphasis will be the K-State Engineering Center, the KU Business Center, The KU Cancer Center initiatives and the BNSF Intermodal.
