Merit completes new campus for South College
|
Students recently began their Winter Quarter classes at South  College's new West Knoxville campus, located on Parkside Drive in the former Goody's corporate headquarters. Merit Construction completed the renovation of the facility for the college, which occupies approximately 85,000 square feet in the property's west wing.
South College's new campus will house the schools of Education, Pharmacy, Physician Assistant Studies, and the Nursing Department. The facility features a student activities center, a canteen, numerous study rooms, and a 120-seat lecture hall with the latest in audiovisual technology.
Merit Construction transformed the facility from an office environment to a state-of-the-art learning center, complete with medical suites that replicate actual office settings for Physician Assistant students and fully equipped labs and dispensaries necessary for pharmacy training.
Along with the facility's advantages for health care students, the South College School of Education features the latest in educational technology with "smart boards" and an increased number of classrooms to accommodate this growing field.
In addition to the academic areas moving to the new campus, staff from the business office, admissions, and financial aid will have offices there, as well as at South College's main campus on Lonas Drive.
