Merit Renovation Makes Room for Animals
|
Merit Construction recently completed the Young-Williams Animal Village at 6400 Kingston Pike on Bearden Hill. The 9,575-square-foot facility will house a satellite location for animal adoptions, a spay-neuter clinic, pet day care by PetSafe and office space for Invisible Fence of East Tennessee.
The Animal Village is located in a high-traffic location that has previously been home to numerous restaurants. Merit's extensive work on the facade has completely changed the look of the existing pre-engineered steel structure. Along with exposed timber beams and columns, natural stone, and a standing seam metal roof, the facility also features covered outdoor play areas that provide space for animal exercise and give visitors a chance to see the animals before entering the building.
Once inside, the lobby's finishes complement the exterior with wood-wrapped beams and an exposed structure. The adoption floor also features skylights, storefront windows and doors, and plenty of natural lighting.
In addition to freeing up space in their main facility on Division Street, Young-Williams officials also hope that the new facility's spay-neuter clinic will decrease the number of homeless animals coming in to all area shelters in the future. The clinic on Bearden Hill will spay and neuter an estimated 15,000 animals per year.
"Merit Construction recently completed this very challenging renovation project that turned an old restaurant into a beautiful new facility that will help us promote responsible adoption and animal health in East Tennessee. Merit continues to be a great construction partner for PetSafe Village and Radio Systems and I am grateful for their support," said Randy Boyd, president and CEO of Radio Systems Corporation.
