Renovation Update

Includes information regarding new temporary entrances as of February 26, 2012.

As our renovation proceeds, we are becoming increasingly excited to present to you an updated Rec Center, featuring a new main entrance and Front Desk.  With the changes that need to be made, our current main entrance and Front Desk will be temporarily relocated beginning Sun., Feb. 26.  Rec Center Physical Therapy will also have a separate entrance.  This will last about three months' time. In addition to the photos attached, please note the following:
  • The main entrance will be moved to the High Court Pilates B southeast doors beginning Sun., Feb. 26. (see attached photo)
  • The Front Desk will move to the Fitness Testing Room, located by the north entrance.
  • Upon using the new main High Court entrance, please proceed around the track, counter-clockwise, to the new Front Desk location by the north entrance.
  • Running on the track will be prohibited during this time.
  • Handicap accessible parking will be available by the north entrance.
  • North entrance hours will be adjusted to reflect facility hours.
  • Members utilizing the Rec Room babysitting service are encouraged to enter the facility through the temporary physical therapy entrance (see photo below) for ease of dropping off children.
  • Please expect closures and delays at the former Front Desk area if entering from the Pharmacy and temporary physical therapy entrance.  Members who are not utilizing the Rec Room are encouraged to enter the facility through the north or temporary main entrance.

We sincerely thank you for your patience during this time of renovation.  Estimated date of completion for the project is June 2012.

Get Your Plate in Shape
By Sandy Holterhaus, LD, RD

It's National Nutrition Month. Is Your Plate in Shape? The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and RD's like myself want to take this opportunity to remind you to build a healthy plate.

Choose most of the items for your plate from plant-based foods with half your plate being fruits and vegetables. A little over a quarter of the plate should be grains (aim for 48 grams of whole grain per day). The remainder of the plate should be your protein source which includes lean meats, fish, poultry, nuts, beans and legumes. Lowfat and non-fat milk and dairy sources are also an essential part of your meal and featured on the side of the plate.

Myplate.orgA tip for obtaining 48 grams of whole grains per day is to look for the Whole Grains Council seal on whole grains products. It will tell you how many grams of whole grain are in one serving. Big G Cereals will also list the grams of whole grain per serving. Why the focus on whole grains? Whole grains contain the bran, the germ, and the endosperm. Together the whole grain provides vital vitamins, nutrients, fiber and phytochemicals that cannot be found in the refined grain. For more information on getting your plate in shape check out the resources at www.choosemyplate.gov.
