Dear Friends,
What a fabulous summer! With Labor Day just around the corner and schools opening soon for a new academic year, autumn and the beautiful foliage isn't too far away. As we begin to think about cooler temperatures and fall sports, we should take pride in Maine's great outdoor heritage with cross country running, field hockey, soccer and of course, football. The regional sport rivalries make for great competition and community gatherings.
We wish to remind everyone how important the Code of Conduct for sports and life are to follow and embrace. Be responsible and stay focused - this is part of the message U.S. Olympian Julia Clukey has been delivering to local high school athletes as part of our Responsibility Campaign. To learn more this initiative see the story below.
In keeping with the responsibility theme, we wish everyone a safe and happy Labor Day holiday; no matter what you do, please be respectful of others, be safe and be a good sportsman. There is more to life than just "winning the game."
Delivering Quality and Choice, Advocating Responsibility.

Olympian Julia Clukey Helps MBWDA Spread Message of Responsibility
Olympian Julia Clukey speaks with students at Cony High School in Augusta. |
Olympian Julia Clukey is moving fast, but she isn't on her sled. Over the last month the Maine native and member of the US National Luge Team has made three high school appearances as part of her partnership with the Maine Beer & Wine Distributors Association and her involvement in the Association's ongoing responsibility campaign.
In September, she will continue to make several more presentations at local high schools and around the state before leaving for Lake Placid, New York to continue her training for the upcoming World Cup.
Each presentation, made possible by the Maine Beer & Wine Distributors Association, begins with a motivational and inspiring video that leads into Julia's introduction. From there, Clukey shares her experiences from growing up in Maine, the challenges she has faced during her career and a message of individual responsibility.
"By making these presentations as part of the Maine Beer & Wine Distributors Association's responsibility campaign, I am able to connect with young Mainers and share my story. I trust that my story and personal life experiences will encourage students to make good decisions," said Olympian Julia Clukey.
Clukey has made recent presentations at Gardiner Area High School, Sanford High School and her alma mater, Cony High School. At each appearance she has addressed crowds of up to 300 student athletes, parents and coaches as part of each school's Sports Information Night.
