Dear Friends,
Cheryl Timberlake

With the adjournment of the Maine Legislature, we turn our attention to the business of our industry: the responsible distribution of beer and wine. Now that spring is in full bloom and summer is fast approaching, Mainers can look forward to more time with family and friends, special events and outdoor recreation. With these occasions, there may be the desire to celebrate with our products. The MBWDA is proud to provide the best quality and choice of products to Maine retailers, restaurants and bars and encourage people to celebrate responsibly.

Do you know where these products originate? We operate in a regulatory system that assures product integrity from manufacturing to consumption. It requires all parties in contact with the product to be licensed to ensure transparency. To learn more about state-based regulation, click here.

Why is this important? Many countries have counterfeit and poisonous products entering their supply chains. Our country benefits from a state-based regulatory system for alcohol that was created by Congress more than 75 years ago as Prohibition ended. The 21st Amendment grants individual states the primary authority to regulate alcohol within their borders. This system keeps the business of beer and wine distribution local.

This week, Steve DiMillo, Manager at DiMillo's Floating Restaurant in Portland, shared his perspective on the importance of Maine's local beer and wine distributors.

Recently, the members of the MBWDA (pictured above) visited Washington, D.C. to reinforce the importance of the state-based alcohol regulatory system in meetings with members of the Maine Congressional delegation. There are many benefits of the American alcohol distribution system and as society addresses problems like underage drinking, drunk driving and product safety, the importance of maintaining effective state-based alcohol regulation is critical.

The state-based, three-tier system of alcohol distribution is at the very core of what defines a balanced and orderly marketplace. Working with multinational beer and wine companies and the smallest craft brews, mega-retailers and small mom-and-pop stores, distributors facilitate a level playing field for all beer and wine manufacturers and retailers. This guarantees that Maine consumers enjoy choice and selection unmatched anywhere else.

As leaders in our state, the MBWDA are proud to bring you the best in beer and wine products and we ask you to be responsible your decisions.

    Outside Federal

Located in Lewiston, Maine, Federal Distributors was founded by Eugene J. Cronin Jr. in April of 1947.  He courageously started the family-owned business with a small 3,200 sq. ft warehouse, only one salesman and just one truck driver. Today, Federal Distributors has more than 70 employees, a fleet of 22 trucks and operates out of a state of the art 59,752 sq. ft. warehouse. More
