FUN FACTS
The word "toast," meaning a wish of good health, started in ancient Rome, where a piece of toasted bread was dropped into wine.

Before invention of the thermometer, brewers used to check the temperature by dipping their thumb. This is where we get the phrase "The Rule of Thumb."

Greetings from the Maine Beer & Wine Distributors Association!

Dear Friends,
Nick Alberding
There are many things to be excited about at the Maine Beer and Wine Distributors Association moving into 2010 and this first edition of our monthly e-newsletter is certainly one of them.

This month, we are proud to not only share our first newsletter, but the MBWWAunveiling of our new name and logo. We have changed our name from the Maine Beer and Wine Wholesalers Association to the Maine Beer and Wine Distributors Association. Changing our name and logo are part of the steps we are taking to better educate people about the important role of the distributor and state-based regulation.

I would like to thank Colonel Patrick J. Fleming from the Maine State Police for helping to create our recent PSA campaign. We invite you to listen to the PSAs and learn more about our organization at our brand new Web site at www.mainebeerandwine.com.

Maine Beer and Wine Distributors proudly continue to deliver quality products while advocating responsibility.

On behalf of the Maine Beer and Wine Distributors Association, have a happy and safe holiday season.

Sincerely,
Nick Alberding Signature

Maine State Police and MBWDA Announce PSA Campaign

In November, the Maine Beer and Wine Distributors Association (MBWDA) and the Maine State Police launched a public service advertising (PSA) campaign to acknowledge the role of a designated driver. The campaign will air on local radio stations throughout the state during the holiday season.

Col FlemingThe PSA features the Chief of the Maine State Police, Colonel Patrick J. Fleming, delivering a message that salutes everyone who has ever been a designated driver. The message is designed to acknowledge the many individuals that have played a positive role in saving lives. In 2008, Maine's Department of Public Safety reported that arrests for driving under the influence of liquor decreased by 10 percent from 2007.
