National Adoption Awareness Month is a collective effort to recognize and celebrate adoption. It provides a wonderful opportunity to increase knowledge and awareness about healthy adoption practice. Whether you are personally touched by adoption or know someone who is, you can become an advocate. Here are a few suggestion to help you be a part of the celebration.
Share your story. Remember seeing and holding your baby for the first time? Share the tale of hid/her birth and homecoming.
Write a letter to your birth mother.
Donate a book about adoption to your child's school library.
Partner with your place of worship. Ask your congregation leader to hold a special November service in honor of adoption.
Ask for a Proclamation. Invite your mayor to issue a proclamation declaring November National Adoption Awareness Month in your community.
Ask employers to become adoption-friendly. An increasing number of employers are offering adoption benefits such as financial reimbursement for adoption expenses and paid adoption leave. Add your company to the list.
Share some thoughts about adoption on facebook, twitter or other social media outlet.
IPAS kicked off National Adoption Awareness Month by entering a team in the Two Cities Marathon. We had advocates wearing our logo, running the marathon, half marathon, relay and a walking team. Our thanks to all who participated. We applaud their efforts to recognize adoption.
