Ark on the Move
Season after Pentecost, 2012
Thursday, July 12

So David went and brought up the ark of God from the house of Obed-edom to the city of David with rejoicing...

Greetings!

For some weeks we've been talking about what a miraculous thing it is that calls us to participate in His story. Along the way, we've seen God's intention for His priestly people, and how He dwells among them, and we've also touched on a few highlights in the life of David.

This coming Sunday many of those themes come together in another event in the life of the Children of Israel and in the life of David: When the Ark of God, that ultimate symbol of His dwelling among the people, returned to Jerusalem. Scripture records the eventful trip that the Ark took and, finally, the great celebration when it arrived in the City of David:

They brought in the ark of the LORD, and set it in its place, inside the tent that David had pitched for it....

After you read the account of the Ark's return (and don't forget to fill in the verses of 2 Samuel 6 that the lectionary leaves out), think about these questions:

What does the story tell us about God's dwelling among His people?

What might the Ark of God, and the story of its return to Jerusalem, have in common with Mary the mother of Jesus?

How does the story point us to the person and work of Christ?

Already looking forward to worshiping with you this Sunday.

Love you and see you Sunday...
