Twelve Years Long
Season after Pentecost, 2012

Out of the depths I cry to you, O LORD...

Greetings!

In the Gospel reading for Sunday, we see Jesus healing two people: One, the woman with the "issue of blood", a hemorrhage that lasted twelve years, and the other, a little girl, the daughter of Jairus. In fact, Jesus did more than heal the little girl-- He raised her from the dead. Both people were made whole; Jesus demonstrated His Lordship over death, disease, and over the enemy himself.

I wait for the LORD, my soul waits, and in his word I hope....

As you prepare for Sunday's worship, do some thinking about your own "twelve years" of waiting for restoration or wholeness. Are you there now? Have you yet experienced the waiting, the longing that we see in the Psalmist's words, "Out of the depths I cry to you"?

The faith of the woman, who longed just to touch Jesus' clothing (see painting above, right) was what made her well, Jesus said. And yet there was the wait that lasted twelve years long.

Let's read and pray over this remarkable passage and come Sunday prepared to share what God is saying to us.
