Children's Task Force

Greetings!

The last few months, a children's task force has been meeting to talk about our church's core values-- what motivates us, what we believe-- about children's ministry with us.

FamilyAnd really, that's one of the core values: That our interaction with children in our community of faith has less to do with our ministry TO kids and more about their ministry WITH us.

Part of what we did was to develop and present to our elders a statement of mission and purpose. The core of that statement, titled "Our Inter-Generational Epic Community" can be found on our website (more on that in a bit).

Another part of our ongoing work was to develop a series of things we'd like to see happen-- 1) Right now, 2) Soon, and 3) Later, with an eye toward prioritizing them over the next few months to a year.

We would love to invite you into the conversation.

Will you join us? We'd like for the Epiclesis family to first begin praying-- in earnest-- about our core values, about the heart we have, and want to have, for children, and about how we can continue to grow together as a truly inter-generational community of faith.

Next, please take a look at our core values about children's ministry with us. You can find them, and a listing of some of the "Right Now", "Soon", and "Later" items, by clicking right here.

Finally, in the very near future, we want to take some time to share more about those ideas and activities with the whole Epiclesis family-- to get your input, feedback, and also to see what kinds of things you might want to become involved with.

Alrighty, have any questions or need more information? Please let me or any of the task force members know. (I'll put their names and email links just below).

The Lord be with you!

Pastor Chris

Church Family Shares This Sunday...

In some ways, every Sunday is a family worship day at Epiclesis-- we embrace whole family worship in our gatherings. But here's something special: One of our church families, the Fickenschers, are going to lead worship this Sunday, June 17 (which also happens to be Father's Day!). And here's the best part: They're going to show us some of the ways they worship as a family in their home-- and they all have a part to play!

Bring your families (and some family guests) and join us this Sunday, June 17th.

Summer Project Underway...

Start collecting blankets and coats, please, for our summer outreach project. Remember that several members of our church are forming a team traveling to the Navajo Nation in Northern Arizona.

The trip, later in July, will have several projects associated with it (including some light construction and summer Bible programs for kids), but we also want to send blankets and coats. Our mission partner has shared with us about the extreme cold of the winters there, made all the more difficult by basic living conditions. The folks there are in need and we want to step in and help.

Do you have some blankets or coats (all sizes, all ages)? Bring them to church on Sundays between now and the departure date later in July.

Need more information? Please email Norm or Don.

Bring a dish on July 1...

Here's something fun: We're planning an informal potluck-- oops, we mean "foodfest"-- for Sunday, July 1, following church. Just bring something yummy to share.

Immediately after worship, we'll set up a few tables in the chapel, a serving line in the lobby, and then hit the plates.

We've got refrigerator space for cold and frozen things, and if you want to bring something hot, please bring a crockpot, etc., to keep 'er warm.

Questions? Ideas? Send us a note.

Another Recent Radio Interview...

Pastor Chris made another recent appearance on local radio, again on KFIA, on a program called "Kingdom News."

The host, Tony Bosserman, normally takes the first fifteen minutes of the spot to focus on stories of interest to the Christian community (in this session he talks about "Christian hypocrisy"). In the program's last 15 minutes, he interviews a local pastor or ministry representative to talk about their mission and work.

In this episode, Tony interviewed Pastor Chris about Epiclesis and comparisons between the early church and today. Special thanks to the staff and crew at KFIA for their invitation and hospitality.

Family Funday Sunday Coming...

Save the date! The whole Epiclesis family-- from ages 3 to 93-- is getting together on Sunday afternoon, August 19, for an afternoon of fun. We'll have food (the whole cookout kit and caboodle), games of all kinds, sitting (if that sounds more fun), kite flying, watermelon, and we'll wrap up with some time around the campfire.

We're still settling in on a precise time (probably around 5) and location (probably a park in the Citrus Heights, Orangevale area)-- but save that date for now, alrighty?

AncientAn Ancient-Future Quote to Note

No Revenge

Augustine
Augustine
You have heard an insult, like the wind. You are angry, like a wave. When the wind blows, and the wave

swells, the ship is then endangered, the heart is in jeopardy, and the heart is tossed back and forth.

When you were insulted, you longed for revenge. But if you have been avenged and so rejoice in the person's pain, you have suffered shipwreck. Why is this? Because Christ is asleep in you. What does it mean that Christ is asleep in you? That you have forgotten Christ. Rouse Him then. Call Christ to mind and let Him wake up in you. Pay attention to Him. What do you want? Revenge. Have you forgotten that, when He was being crucified, Christ said, "Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do?" The one who was sleeping in your heart didn't want revenge. Wake Him up then. Remember Him. Remember Him through His word, for He commands us to remember Him. Then if Christ wakes up in you, you will say, "What kind of person am I who wants revenge? Who am I to threaten other people? I might die before I am avenged, ...therefore, I will restrain my anger and return to a calm heart." For when Christ commanded the sea, peace was restored. -Augustine
