Can you imagine: Having God as your King and then getting envious of "other nations"? Yet that was precisely what the Children of Israel did.
And so God gave them what they wanted:
And the LORD said to Samuel, "Listen to the voice of the people in all that they say to you; for they have not rejected you, but they have rejected me from being king over them.
Starting Sunday, we're going to take a biblical tour of the history of the Children of Israel-- from God's intention and original desires for them, through their own desires for themselves, and how ultimately Jesus asks us, through Him and in the power of the Holy Spirit, to be the kingdom of priests that God the Father wanted Israel to be.
Talk about original intentions: Check out the Genesis passage appointed for Sunday (right). And don't miss Paul's letter, and also the Gospel lesson, where we see what family can be-- what a kingdom can be-- when the Holy Spirit is at work there.
Looking forward to Sunday when the Holy Spirit will lift us up into the glorious communion that is ongoing among the members of the Divine Community. As Jesus is in the Father, we are in Him, and He is also in us.
It simply takes your breath away.
