The Resurrection: So What?
Who Are God's Friends?
Eastertide, 2012
Friday, May 11

What does the resurrection mean for... My relationship with Jesus?

Greetings!

Continuing the Upper Room discourse in John's Gospel (sometimes also called Jesus' farewell address), our New Testament passage for this Sunday shows Jesus talking about servants (or slaves) and friends:

I do not call you servants any longer, because the servant does not know what the master is doing; but I have called you friends....

So, here's a provocative question for you as you prepare for worship on Sunday: Who are God's friends? Doesn't He love everyone? Is there a special designation "friend of God"?

Take a look at the Scriptures for Sunday (right column) and do some thinking about friendship with Jesus. Oops, and one more thing: How about a little Bible study on the words "servants" (or "slaves") and "friends". Can you find some examples of both in Scripture?

Looking forward to worshiping with you on Sunday!

The Lord be with you!
