What does the resurrection mean for... My relationship with non-believers? |
If someone wanted to know what the point of Christianity is-- if they asked you to give them the bottom line-- what would you say?
In John's letter for this coming Sunday we read this about knowing God:
Whoever does not love does not know God, for God is love.
The Scripture readings for this Sunday call believers back to "the point", the real bottom line, of what it is to be a Christian and to know God. When we are living in God's story, not our own, we behave differently. Our source of power is not located in ourselves, but in the person and work of Jesus Christ: When we truly know God, it is reflected in our relationships with others, especially non-believers, and it can be seen in the fruit we bear. No, we're not supposed to judge as Christians, but we have been called to do some "fruit inspecting."
Do some fruit inspecting in advance of our worship this Sunday by looking especially at John's Gospel, then John's epistle. What do you learn about our relationship with non-believers? What do you learn about fruit?
Living in the truth of the resurrection with you,
Pastor Chris |
