Ever Been Caught in a Spirit Storm?

Greetings!

stormHave you ever been caught out in a Spirit storm? Our community of faith has coined a new term: "Spirit storm". It's because we didn't care for the term "Brain storm". No reason in particular, really, we just didn't like it. It sounded too mind-centered and scientific, I guess. We wanted a certain brain storming session, er, I mean, Spirit storming session, to be a spiritually healthy mix of mind and heart.

And so we're preparing for another Spirit storm, this time on Sunday afternoon, April 15, at 5 PM, at the home of the Sutters. And the storm we hope to get caught in? A Spirit storm on missions.

We'd like for this gathering to be a time where the whole Body-- all of us together-- do some discerning about what we believe God is saying to us about missional efforts in 2012.

So, here's what I'd like for you to do between now and April 15: Pray. That's it, really. Just pray. Simply and profoundly. As you're praying, ask the Spirit what He has in mind for us in 2012 when it comes to missions.

Then, when you come to the Spirit storm, be prepared to share what you've heard from the Lord. We'll do a bit of reporting on what has happened in the previous year-- including the items that came up in last year's missions Spirit storm-- and together we'll discern some direction for this year.

One more thing: It's a potluck, so you'll be bringing a tasty dish to share, too. Now, we probably need a replacement for the term "potluck", too. We don't really believe in luck. So, ideas anyone?

Covenant and CrossPS: Don't forget that we have a Lenten devotional book prepared for you. It gives Scripture readings for Sundays, plus some commentary and a word or two about the season. You may pick one up on Sunday mornings, or click right here to download your own copy from our website.

EpicEPIC Women

Epic WomenBut they can't deflect bullets...

Our Epic women are getting together this Saturday, March 17, from 10 AM to noon at Peet's on Madison for their monthly gathering. And no, they don't wear Wonder Woman costumes (although, honestly, that'd be a hoot) and they can't deflect bullets. What they actually do is gather for conversation, encouragement, and prayer. Sound good? Check out the online calendar for more information and directions... and hope to see you there!

Worship Due

Ambrose
Ambrose of Milan

We read and believe many things in light of the Incarnation. But even in our human feelings, we can observe God's greatness. For example, Jesus is wearied by His journey so that He can refresh the weary. He desires a drink when He is about to give spiritual water to the thirsty. He was hungry when He was about to supply the food of salvation to the hungry. He dies to live again. He is buried to rise again. He hangs on the dreadful cross to strengthen those in dread. He veils the heaven with thick darkness so that He can give light. He makes the earth shake so that He may make it strong. He rouses the sea so that He can calm it. He opens the tombs of the dead so that He can show that they are the homes of the living. He is born of a virgin so that people can believe He is born of God. He pretends not to know so that He can make the ignorant know. As a Jew He is said to worship so that the Son may be worshiped as the true God.

-Ambrose
