The Cross and the Covenant
The Season of Lent, 2012
Thursday, February 23

Then God said to Noah and to his sons...

Greetings!

Our Lenten series, "The Cross and the Covenant," begins with a look at one of the most familiar and dramatic of the Old Testament covenants: The covenant God made with humankind through Noah and his descendants.

..."As for me, I am establishing my covenant with you and your descendants after you, and with every living creature that is with you, the birds, the domestic animals, and every animal of the earth with you, as many as came out of the ark."

When we think of Noah, our minds probably go straight away to him building of the ark. But let's not forget the covenant that God made with Noah after the waters receded and the mighty ship landed on dry ground.

Check out the Scriptures (next column) as you prepare for Sunday and, especially, take a look at how Peter harkens back to the days of Noah to bring covenant and the Christ together for his readers.
