Dazzling White
The Season of Epiphany, 2012
Thursday, February 16

And he was transfigured before them, and his face shone like the sun, and his clothes became dazzling white....

Greetings!

And so, after an especially long Season of Epiphany, we come at last to the final Sunday, Transfiguration Sunday. We began with Christ's baptism; we end with His transfiguration-- and what marvelous things we discovered along the way! You will recall that we've been focusing on the authority of Christ during Epiphany. And now, here on the mount of transfiguration, God the Father affirms that the Son has all authority:

...suddenly a bright cloud overshadowed them, and from the cloud a voice said, "This is my Son, the Beloved; with him I am well pleased; listen to him!"

I'm wondering what you might discover when you compare this week's Mark passage, the Transfiguration, with the verses in 2 Kings about Elijah's dramatic, fiery ascension (see Scriptures, right column).

What a marvelous event in the life of Christ to marvel at this week. I'm already looking forward to worshiping with you this Sunday.

Beholding His glory,
