The Authority
to Cast Out Evil
Season of Epiphany, 2012
Thursday, February 2

And he cured many who were sick with various diseases...

Greetings!

This season of Epiphany, we've been taking a look at Jesus' unique authority-- the authority to preach, to bring repentance, for example.

The Gospel story for this Sunday shows Jesus healing-- and also delivering people from bondage. Mark records that Jesus cured many who were sick...

...and cast out many demons; and he would not permit the demons to speak, because they knew him.

Just as Jesus has the authority over things of this world, He also has complete authority over things that are not of this world. We can take comfort in knowing that He is Lord of all.

One other note: Compare the Psalm passage for Sunday with the Gospel: Jesus' teaching ("For this is what I came to do," He says) is linked with his casting out demons. What do you make of that?

Can't wait to see you on Sunday!
