Then Jesus came from Galilee to John at the Jordan, to be baptized by him.... |
Two things to think about today: We're preparing for the first Sunday of Epiphany, the day the Christian church traditionally focuses on the Baptism of Jesus.
Let me challenge you to re-read that familiar story, (see next column) with fresh eyes and, of course, asking for the Spirit's perspective. After all, the Spirit was present on that amazing day when John the Baptizer immersed Jesus in the waters.
...and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and on him.
And one more item: Today, the Day of Epiphany (January 6), is an important one in the life of the church. The celebration of Christmas comes to an end, and a new season begins-- a season where we consider that the gift of the Incarnation is revealed and given to the whole world.
Take some time to read the Scriptures for the Day of Epiphany (next column) and consider this question: What does the coming of the Wise Men have to tell us about the coming of Messiah?
The Lord be with you! |
