An Ancient-Future New Old Year

Greetings!

Let me tell you about two things that are on my mind this New Year-- some Ancient-Future things that I'd like you to have on your mind, too:

BreakforthFirst, Sheila and I will travel later this month to Edmonton, Canada, to attend "Breakforth Canada", billed as North America's largest worship and equipping conference. I have been invited to speak there, in several sessions, on the "Ancient-Future" movement in particular, and worship renewal in general. Ellen Koehler and Laura Nelson will also be going, for which I'm so grateful. Please begin praying for us as we prepare for this wonderful ministry opportunity. By the way, one particular session, titled "Encouragement for Weary Worshipers", is something that I felt strongly led to offer to conference goers. Please pray that God will put people in our paths who need an encouraging word.

You've heard me speak of the Network, to some extent, over the last few months, but now the pace is quickening as we get ready to launch a beautiful, dynamic website (More on that later). We also are looking toward the AFFN's first annual gathering in Orange Park, Florida, in June of this year. God is already using the Network to build the Kingdom and to foster renewal in the Church.

As always, if you have any questions or comments about either of these two Ancient-Future things, please let me know. We're always looking for partners in prayer and in ministry.

Wishing you a happy Ancient-Future New Old Year,

Pastor Chris

Ron Richardson Offering Terrific Class...

Abraham and IsaacOur own Ron Richardson is working on a fantastic mini-series on art, covenant, and the Lord's Supper. Part of Ron's final doctoral work, the four-session series will focus on how God reaches out to us in the Eucharist-- the Table of the Lord-- and he's going to look at several great, classic works of art to show the way.

Ron is looking for about 15 people to join him for the study, so act quickly since space is limited.

The sessions will launch on January 22 (one week after our Epiphany service of worship). The sessions will meet at 5 PM, at the Carmichael Chapel on four consecutive Sundays.

Mark Your Calendars for January 15...

We have a wonderful opportunity for worship on Sunday night, January 15, at 6 PM, at the Carmichael Chapel.

An evening of Epiphany-focused themes, the candlelit service will feature Scripture, prayer, music, rich images, and words from the early Church Fathers.

This (like the recent beautiful Advent service of lessons and carols) will be a wonderful chance to invite guests and newcomers to give them a taste of what we do at Epiclesis.

By the way, our community of faith annually prepares an Epiphany devotional booklet that outlines Scripture and gives some guidance and direction for Sunday worship. Would you like a copy? You may pick one up on Sunday mornings, or click here to download a copy.

Go Back to the Garden of Eden?

Christians must go back to the Garden of Eden and reclaim God's original purposes for creatures and creation. We are the image-bearers of God, and we have been given the task of making this world the theatre of God's glory. It is not only the inner chamber of the heart that should glow with the presence of God, but our culture, too-- our cities, our civilization, the whole of life.
