Eden Seminary Trustees Initiate
"Seminary Exploratory Year" Scholarship for UCC students for the 2012-2013 Academic Year
At a meeting in St. Louis on May 2 & 3, 2012, the Eden Seminary Board of Trustees initiated a scholarship covering full tuition for an "exploratory year" for entering United Church of Christ Master of Divinity students. The scholarship affirms Eden's historic engagement with the United Church of Christ. The board chair, Virginia Toliver, said "Eden trustees are opening a way for women and men eager to explore God's call to ministry but restricted because of finances. Although the trustees want very much to open such a scholarship to the broad ecumenical community, we have acted today to begin with Eden's core church relationship-the UCC."
To qualify for the 2012-2013 full tuition scholarship, students must apply and be admitted to the Master of Divinity program at Eden.
In addition, they must be a member of a United Church of Christ congregation and become a member in discernment with an association of the United Church of Christ during the first year of study. Students receiving the scholarship must be involved in a contextual education placement. The exploratory year scholarship is for first year students only. UCC students beginning in fall 2012 will have a full tuition scholarship for both the fall and spring semesters. That is a savings of over $14,000! Students who begin their MDIV study in the spring of 2013 ( February 2013) will receive full tuition for the spring semester. In the second and third year, students will receive a $5,000 scholarship
The Reverend Carol Shanks, Director of Admissions at Eden says: "We speak so often to members of the United Church of Christ who want to go to seminary, but just don't think they can afford it. With this scholarship, folks will be able to come and see that first year if seminary is right for them."
For more information about this scholarship and making application for the Master of Divinity contact Rev. Shanks at 314-918-2501 or at cshanks@eden.edu.

Church World Service Kits: urgent need
Friends,
We are all of us aware of the disasters that have already occurred this year around the world. In the U.S., hurricane season (officially begins June 1) has made an early start with Tropical Storm Alberto sitting off the Eastern Coast.
Since the beginning of January, CWS has shipped thousands of kits - baby kits, clean up buckets, school kits and hygiene kits to assist people impacted by disasters. Your help is urgently needed to increase supplies that are currently available in the CWS warehouses.
Most needed are baby kits, clean up buckets and school kits.
Below is a link to the CWS brochure that includes information about kit ingredients and shipping. Please share this with our local church members and other friends within your Conference. Your help to communities in need is greatly appreciated.

RE-BUILDING HELP NEEDED IN BINGHAMTON, HY
Friends,
In September 2011, Hurricane Irene flooded the Northeastern part of the United States. Binghamton, NY was one of the cities that suffered significant damage to homes. They are now ready to receive volunteer work groups. Please share this information throughout your Conference. The link below will take you to registration information.
Binghamton, NY was flooded as the result of Tropical Storm Lee, following Hurricane Irene, in September 2011. Over 9,000 properties were damaged in Broome County of which Binghamton is part - many in areas that have never flooded before. The adjacent counties of Chenango and Tioga also received significant flood damage. This up-state New York valley has lots of dykes and flood walls that have worked well in the past. In September 2011 water went over them for the first time. These 2011 floods follow another serious flood in 2006. |

DOES YOUR CHURCH NEED A CONSULTANT?
We are here to help.
With a team of ten senior consultants, the Center for Progressive Renewal is here to help local churches, associations, regions, districts, synods and conferences succeed in a multitude of areas including developing a comprehensive communication strategy utilizing social media, network marketing, and a contemporary brand that communicates to a new generation; recreating core values, mission, and strategic programming in a way that attracts a generation determined to change the world in which they live; creating new styles of worship, small groups, and spiritual formation that speak to the needs of a generation that interacts more online than in person; assessing and shaping a future built on assets rather than reacting to challenges and liabilities; streamlining structures to reduce management and enhance ministry; and more.
