   NEWS FROM THE ASSOCIATIONS

Well, it's official now.  All of the Associations in the Kansas-Oklahoma Conference have now approved the recommendations from the 2011 Annual Meeting.  The next step will be the development of revised Constitution and Bylaws for approval at the 2012 Annual Meeting.  The new system will have us become a Conference that functions as an Association.  After the Annual Meeting (November 12), Associations will no longer exist, but local churches and their pastors are encouraged to gather for fellowship, education, and support.  Also at that time, the Committee on Ministry will function on a conference wide level.  There will be three parts (authorization/standing, discernment/preparation and church/ new & existing) and all of the members will be elected at the Annual Meeting and be broadly representative of the Conference.

One of the significant pieces of conversation during these meetings was what happens to the Association treasury and the on-going Association dues.  Each Association has made a decision about its budget for 2012 and what will happen if any funds are left over in November.  We are also asking that each church increase their giving to Our Church's Wider Mission by the amount of their former Association dues.  The Conference is taking on the Association responsibilities, in particular, the Committee on Ministry, and funds will be needed.

More information will be forth coming as we get closer to the 2012 Annual Meeting, but wanted to let you know we are progressing on this path.  We give thanks for the faithful work of the Associations throughout the years and recognize the sadness that these decisions mean for some.  But with hope for the future, we also recognize the opportunities that God is placing before us as we move forward into the days ahead.

JPANet: Act to End Racial Profiling

What does faith have to do with ending racial profiling?

As Peter reminds us in the book of Acts, God shows no partiality but expresses love for all. Therefore, as people of faith, we are called to be in solidarity with all people.

Take action! Help protect community by asking your Senator to co-sponsor and pass the End Racial Profiling Act.  For more information
