Mission:1 at Rosedale UCC - a  "LOAVES AND FISHES " experience!

It seemed that we would never reach our goal and then.....we did. Hundreds of items came from our partner church, St. Paul A.M.E. Zion and our sister UCC church, United Church of the Good Shepherd. Also, Emerson Park Christian Church contributed, along with families from our kids programs and friends of our own members. The representative from our local food pantry at Our Saviour Lutheran Church came to pick up the food yesterday and she was astounded. There is no doubt that this effort made a significant contribution to the food they need to feed hungry famllies in Rosedale this winter. The final count was 1173 items.  It was exciting for all of us to be part of this national UCC effort!

Rev. Jane Heide, Rosedale and Rev. Dr. Art Foster, UCGS

Dear Partners in Ministry,

Because you are a covenantal partner, it is important that you know the financial status of the Conference. Just like many individuals and organizations, this has been a challenging year for the Conference in terms of finances.

As of October 31, 2011 Our Church's Wider Mission giving was $160,888 compared to $181,335 at the same time in the previous year. While we trust that giving will continue through the end of the year it is likely that there will be a $20,000 to $30,000 deficit.

The Council is being pro-active about this reality and has made a decision to reduce our giving to the ecumenical portion of the budget by 14% (the anticipated shortfall in giving) and to withhold national OCWM basic support at this time. All cuts will be restored if funds become available to meet the amounts budgeted.

We are also carefully monitoring the operating expenses where currently all categories are at or under budget. These financial realities again raise questions that the Council and the Conference as a whole will need to wrestle with. What is our purpose? What are our priorities? How do we fund what we value? How do we tell the OCWM story so folks will continue to invest in it?

We sincerely appreciate the support that the congregations have given at this time and if it is within your means to do more for our common cause, we would appreciate that as well. If any additional contributions for 2011 will be made, they will need to be at the office (not just postmarked) by January 9, 2012 when the books for the 2011 year will close.

Blessings on the journey,

Krista Betz, Interim Conference Minister

Jeff Keller, Conference President

 "Gospel Without Borders"

Dear Friends:

I am delighted to inform you about a special documentary on DVD which has been produced regarding the issue of immigration. It is entitled "Gospel Without Borders." I have seen the DVD and it is a marvelous resource.

The video will be launched officially on Friday, November 18, at a premier and panel discussion held at St. John's Missionary Baptist Church in Oklahoma City.

The Oklahoma Conference of Churches is a co-sponsor of the event. I am very pleased to tell you that a free copy of the DVD will be given to any OCC congregation that sends a representative to the premier on November 18 (one DVD per church, please).

I hope that you or someone from your congregation can attend.

I look forward to seeing you there.

The Rev. Dr. William Tabbernee
Executive Director
Oklahoma Conference of Churches

In the Hope of the Resurrection...

Carol Jeanine LeDuc, 71, of Topeka passed away on November 12, 2011 at home, surrounded by family who loved her. Carol was born September 9, 1940, in Chicago, IL to Helga Lillian Amanda Anderson Apelgren and Nels Wilhelm Apelgren. She graduated from Gladstone High School (Gladstone, MI) in 1958. She attended college in Marquette, MI. She married the love of her life, Paul Clifford LeDuc, on August 27, 1960. They celebrated fifty-one years of marriage this year. Together they raised two children, Paul Scott LeDuc of Boise, ID, and Christy Lynne LeDuc of St. Cloud, MN. A Swede to the core, Carol worked faithfully her entire life providing professional support as an administrative assistant and loving support as a wife, mother, sister and friend. She loved music and sang in the church choirs for many years. Most recently she played in a bell choir, making beautiful music at both Seaman Congregational Church and Central U.C.C. churches of Topeka. She was a voracious reader, wonderful cook, and unfailing optimist, and lover of people (she always believed that strangers were just friends she hadnt met yet). Carol is survived by her loving husband, the Rev. Paul C. LeDuc, and their two children, Scott (Leanne) and Christy (Adam), as well as her sister, Linda Lee Keleher (Larry Keleher) and brother, Dr. Keith N. Apelgren (Dr. Carol Ann Slomski), and five beautiful nieces and nephews: Laurie Nelson (Clayton), Lance Keleher (Irene), and Bengt, Chloe and Halle Apelgren. Her parents Helga and Nels Apelgren preceded her in death. Carol loved angels her entire life, and now we are certain that she is one. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, November 21, 2011 at Central Congregational United Church of Christ in Topeka. Memorial contributions may be made to Central Congregational UCC in care of Davidson Funeral Home who is assisting the family.
