K-O CONFERENCE
E-news |
|
To know Him as He is today, not as a manger- babe, but as the one who lived and died and lives again, enthroned and reigning in our hearts. To sense the need of those who only know the tinsel and the rushing of the crowds, who celebrate a day, and nothing more -- because to them He slumbers yet at Bethlehem! To love Him and His Word above all else, and loving, wish to tell others everywhere the tidings of redemption.. this we know IS CHRISTMAS.
May it be true for you again this year! ~Author Unknown

GENERAL SYNOD 28
 |
The General Synod Programming and Planning Committee has decided to forego "traditional" workshops at General Synod 28, in Tampa. Instead, they have decided to offer a unique opportunity to take part in "Your Church, Better"- 20 minute mini-workshops. Attached is the information and application to be a part of this new approach to workshops. Please feel free to contact me, should you have any questions.

Note to K-O Conference Members from the Budget Task Force
We are about to complete 2010 under the budget that you approved at the 2009 meeting of the Kansas-Oklahoma Conference. It was a tight budget, but it was the first balanced one within recent memory. The good news is that it worked. Thanks to tight management control by Conference Staff and the Finance and Assets Committee, we have held our expenses within the budget's limitations. We should be able to end the year without a deficit, but to do so, we will need your help. Your contributions to OCWM, our basic source for funding the K-O Conference and the National Church, have been somewhat less than we projected. We still need about $7,000 if we are to meet all our obligations.
Please review your church's OCWM support. Have you sent in all that you have promised? If not, please make sure that the funds are sent to the Conference Office. If you have already sent in your share, can you make a "second-effort" gift? We are so close to finishing the year in a way you can be proud of, please don't let down in these final few weeks. The 2010 books will close on January 10th, so be sure that Judy has the funds by that date.
2010 has been a good year for us financially. Thank you for all you have done to make that possible. |
We encourage all Church Treasurers to remember that all contributions for Our Church's Wider Mission (OCWM), the other Five for Five offerings (One Great Hour of Sharing, Strengthen the Church, Neighbors in Need and the Christmas Fund) plus any other remitted gifts must be received in the Conference's Lock Box or in the Conference Office by Monday, January 10, 2011. All gifts received after this date will go into the 2011 budget year, even if you have designated that gift for 2010. We encourage you to remit your 2010 gifts to the Conference accordingly.

ON KEEPING CHRISTMAS
Dr. Frank Johnson Pippin ~ 1953
Christmas is a spirit,
And the spiriit of Christmas is Peace.
Christmas is a gladness,
And the gladness of Christmas is Hope.
Christmas is a heart,
And the heart of Christmas is Love.
Christmas is an experience,
And the experience of Christmas is Giving.
Christmas is a celebration,
And the celebration of Christmas is Christ adored.
- Do something definite for someone else without any thought of recompense.
- Put a love gift into His stocking at Christmas time.
- Remember the poor, the sick and those in prison.
- Pray for Peace.

Celebrate Holidays and Special Occasions with a gift through Global Ministries
Dear Friends of Global Ministries:
Global Ministries loves celebrating special occasions with donors and friends. We have celebrated birthdays, anniversaries, holidays, weddings, the birth of children, ordinations, graduations, and many other milestones when friends and family have made tribute gifts in honor of the occasion. Gifts can be made to support a particular partner, a missionary, a special project, or general ministries of Critical Presence around the world.
Global Ministries personalizes a card for the gift recipient and includes a photo of the supported ministry. Gift givers receive a letter of thanks and a receipt for tax purposes. Learn more about giving gifts like these here: http://globalministries.org/get-involved/special-giving-opportunities/alternative-giving.html
Recently several Global Ministries supporters have chosen to use the Causes application on Facebook to make a Birthday Wish in support of Global Ministries. Causes just added the ability to make a Holiday wish as well! You can make a Birthday or Holiday wish by visiting http://wishes.causes.com/.
Each year, Global Ministries helps churches, individuals, and families celebrate Christmas through the Alternative Christmas program. You can give a gift to a friend or loved one while also blessing the lives of others around the world. To learn more about Global Ministries Alternative Christmas, visit http://globalministries.org/get-involved/special-giving-opportunities/alternative-christmas-giving.html
Your gifts can also help raise funds for the work of Global Ministries when you do your shopping online. Visit http://www.goodsearch.com/goodshop.aspx before you make your purchases and Global Ministries will receive a small percentage from participating retailers, airlines, and others. You can also download the GoodSearch/GoodShop toolbar so your online purchases support Global Ministries all year: http://www.goodsearch.com/toolbar/global-ministries-disciples-of-christ-and-united-church-of-christ.
