Alternative Christmas Gifts through Global Ministries

GM LogoDear Friends:

Though it might be a little too early to put up a Christmas tree or set out your favorite nativity scene, it isn't too early think about giving Alternative Christmas Gifts through Global Ministries.  Giving an Alternative Christmas Gift is perfect for lots of people on your list . . the person who has everything or the person who wants nothing . . . friends, relatives, church leaders . . . a child who expresses concern for others in the world . . .

Each year Global Ministries highlights a variety of projects which can be supported - though any project, partner, or country can be designated - and gifts to support missionaries or general gifts are great choices as well.  As with all designated gifts to Global Ministries, 100 percent of all Alternative Gifts are sent for the purpose for which they are designated.  This is possible because of local churches' generoussupport given through Our Church's Wider Mission and Disciples Mission Fund.

Global Ministries will personalize and send a card and photo of the project you have chosen to support if you will provide the gift recipient's name and address.  Gifts can be made online, by phone, or by mail.   If you prefer, we can send you the card and photo and you can deliver it yourself - just let us know.

For more details, suggested projects, and to give a gift, click here: http://globalministries.org/get-involved/special-giving-opportunities/alternative-christmas-giving.html

Buying gifts online for others on your list?  Your gifts bought online can also support the work of Global Ministries if you first visit GoodShop:  http://www.goodsearch.com/goodshop.aspx.  A wide variety of online sites provide a percentage of sales back to Global Ministries as a donation, just by you shopping, purchasing airline tickets, etc.

You also may download and install the GoodSearch/GoodShop toolbar to support Global Ministries: http://www.goodsearch.com/toolbar/global-ministries-disciples-of-christ-and-united-church-of-christ -- your internet searches and online shopping will automatically provide resources for the work of Global Ministries.

Thank you for including Global Ministries in your Christmas giving this year, both directly through the giving of Alternative Christmas Gifts and indirectly by using GoodShop.

STILLSPEAKING

NATIONAL FRIEND RAISING WEEKEND

Stillspeaking National Friend-Raising Weekend scheduled for November 5-7.

The celebrations begin with the launch of the next Stillspeaking Internet Ad on Friday, November 5, via the social networking world. We believe that, as with the "Language of God" ad back in April, more than one million viewers will be reached again with the extravagant welcome of the United Church.

But this time we want our UCC churches to also participate in the first Stillspeaking Bring-a-Friend Sunday on November 7. What a triad it will be if we launch the ad, forward it to thousands of other people, and bring a friend to church!

The goal of the Stillspeaking campaign is to help all our beloved UCC congregations grow spiritually and numerically. While the means of technology gains our message an ever expanding audience, it is our personal touch of invitation and welcome that makes it possible for others to join us in worship. Here we are coupling the true and tried practice of invitation with the remarkable capacity of today's means of communication and the power of social networking.

Use everyday from here to November 5-7 to spread the word and rally all the people. Go for it UCC!

So, stay tune for more on the Stillspeaking ad and Bring-a-Friend Sunday.

ATTENTION ALL COMMISSION, COMMITTEE, & TASK FORCE CHAIRS

The Conference Office is in the process of creating the latest edition of our conference directory.  Our goal is to publish it by December 1 so that everyone will have the latest list of conference leaders and information.  We need to know from all the chairs who is serving on each of the commissions, committees, or task forces.  Please get this information to Judy Vincent jvincent@kocucc.com by November 5.  Thanks for helping us get this information out to the conference!

WE NEED YOUR HELP!!!!!

"We are asking UCC members and churches to unleash their inner Ellen by creating funny, inviting photos and videos and submitting them so we can upload to YouTube and send them along to her," says Guess.

"We're a church that resonates with Ellen's personality, even as we advocate for justice," adds Guess. "Ellen's address before a major religious body could send a powerful message to the world, a message of hope, inclusivity and acceptance - and the need for more love and laughter."
