Cottonwood's Caring Campers It was a great week at Cottonwood Camp! We had 50 campers (adults with disabilities) plus the nurse's son, 16 counselors, along with the kitchen staff, lifeguards, and maintenance crew. We had a lot of returning campers and a few new campers that were easily incorporated into the camp family.

In the morning we had groups that rotated from Bible study to an outdoor activity and then an inside craft. One morning in Bible study the topic was "caring" and the campers were asked what ways God would want us to help people. Then they were asked what else they could do and a camper said, "pray."
At that point they were told the story of the temple in Jerusalem that was rebuilt and then torn down and how a remaining wall had become a wailing wall.
Campers were shown pictures of people praying at the wall. We then talked about the colors in the dining hall rock walls and each camper was given a paper with black lines on it and crayons so colors could be added to their rocks as they thought appropriate. We then put glue on the corners of each rock and put them on a king sized sheet to make our wailing wall. The wailing wall was hung over alarge bookcase and campers dictated prayers that were folded and tucked into the rocks on the wall.

Throughout the week campers would go over to the wall and add their own prayers and at the end of the week we had 49 prayers on the wall. We thought the prayers were quite touching and wanted to share some of them: -for Pauline's tummy to feel better -for missionaries and camp and Mom and Dad -happy we're at camp -world peace -Mom and Dad's 26th anniversary -Mark because his dad died -learn sign language -for friends here at camp -for our military -for our new people to meet new people -thankful for brother coming home on the 31st (military) -for Alex's dog that died -for family money problems -for neighbors and people with pain
These are just a few of the prayers offered by our caring campers and they fit beautifully with the traits of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility that the "Great I Am" teaches us. Thank you for supporting this ministry. Glenda Bower and Amy Redmon, co-directors, Cottonwood Camp |
