NEWS FROM WHITE MEMORIAL CAMP
from Sara Shaw
Why Camp?
Develop a relationship with God,
Strengthen the Youth, Strengthen the Church, Make New Life Long Friends, Positive Character Development, Build Self-esteem, Learn New Things, Fun Activities, A Chance to Be Yourself, Good Food, Give Parents a Break, Make a Difference in the Life of a Child.
My goal for Last Blast Camp August 2nd - 6th is to get 40+ campers.
My challenge to churches is to send as many kids to camp as possible. Send grandchildren, all the children from church that are old enough (3rd - 12th grade), their children's friends, and the neighborhood kids to camp. Camp is for everyone and God's love is for everyone. Find someone in your community that needs camp and send them to Last Blast Camp. Let's share some love this summer and send as many children as we can!
P.S. We were in the Washunga Day Parade in Council Grove and we won 2nd place!

They will visit the Alamo in San Antonio and historic sites of the conflicts that resulted in the US annexing Texas from Mexico.

VBS in Marysville! by Rev. Judy Scott
We started off the Summer with Daily Vacation Bible School the first full week in June with some special opportunities provided by an outside grant of $1,500 from the Leo W. Ring Trust given to promote the development of children and youth programs at The Evangelical United Church of Christ in Marysville.
Our theme was "Gross, Scary and Weird Stories from the Bible" adapted from a book of teenage activities published by Group publishers.
Our lessons included Jesus' healing of the blind man with mud and spittle, Lot's wife, disembodied fingers (handwriting on the wall), and the 10 plagues of Egypt. Highlights of the 10 plagues included an insect hunt in the park, giant insect crafts, and a day trip to the Doorly Zoo in Omaha, Nebraska to see the insect pavilion and the desert dome.
Twenty-eight children, teens, and adult chaperones participated in the Zoo trip.
We learned how God provides for us - even in ways we do not begin to expect or begin to imagine.

Share your Good News Stories!
Tis the season for Mission Trips and Vacation Bible Schools. Won't you think about sharing your good news stories with the rest of the Conference? Just send a photo or two and a short story about what happened, who was involved and how you saw God in that time and place for submission to the weekly email. We'd love to see and hear about these important ministries that are happening in the conference. Submit articles to kofocus@yahoo.com. |
TREASURER'S REPORT dated 6/30/2010
TREASURER'S REPORT (Prepared June 30, 2010) 2010 FINANCIAL SUMMARY (January 1 - May 31)
OCWM K-O Congregations contributed $87,506 to OCWM in the first five months of 2010. $20,127 (23%) was forwarded to National and $67,379 was retained for Conference ministry. The total was $112 more than budgeted and $2,998 more than was received in 2009. NOTE: K-O Congregations and individuals have been generous with their contributions to the ministry of the UCC beyond the conference. Through May 31, these contributions included $30,060 for Haiti Disaster Relief.
INCOME AND EXPENSE SUMMARY
Conference For the first five months of 2010, budgeted income exceeded budgeted expense by $6,098, compared to a deficit of $844 in 2009. White Memorial Camp For the first five months of 2010, WMC budgeted income exceeded budgeted expense by $6,754, an improvement over a to-date deficit of $21,118 in 2009. Part of this improvement is attributed to most summer camping fees being paid in advance rather than arrears. The 12 month budget for electricity will be expended in 6 months and may put considerable pressure on the total expense budget. Combined For the K-O Conference as a whole, for the first five months of 2010, budgeted income exceeded budgeted expense by $12,852. This is a $34,814 improvement over last year. "Thank You" to all the congregations and individuals that have financially supported the K-O Conference so far this year...and..."Thank You" to Conference staff who conscientiously, day-by-day manage those resources for all of us..
