Dear SB Readers:

March definitely came in like a lamb and left like a lion at Savas Beatie with a flurry of activity and the addition of two new employees: Yvette Lewis and Mona Cole. And as you'll soon find out, The Maps of Antietam is at the printer and The Petersburg Campaign, Vol I is very close. Both titles are on track for a late May - early June release.

The airwaves have been filled with primary results and one very important primary is coming on June 5 for Once a Marine author, Nick "Gunny Pop" Popaditch. Show your support for Nick by visiting his website.

Our authors continue to meet and greet excited readers at events all over the country. In addition, they are very active on the interview circuit as well. Be sure to listen to two recent interviews with The New Civil War Handbook author Mark Hughes and Sickles at Gettysburg author Jim Hessler.

Meet Yvette Lewis, our new administrative coordinator. WIN A FREE BOOK! Just call our office at 916-941-6896 and introduce yourself to either Yvette or Mona, and tell her why your like our books. We will enter your name for a chance to win a signed copy of Scott Mingus's Flames Beyond Gettysburg or Petruzzi and Stanley's The New Gettysburg Campaign Handbook!

And . . . we have two new additions to keep you better informed about what is happening INSIDE Savas Beatie. The first is "Now Under Contract," a new feature in our newsletter about our latest manuscript acquisitions; and second, The Daily Memo, a brief discussion of what we are doing each day inside the belly of the beast. The link to my memo can be found on our home webpage just above our blog links. Click here to read the first one!

Gunny Pop's Pledge

Nick "Gunny Pop" Popaditch author of Once a Marine and the soon-to-be-released The Ultimate Marine Recruit Training Guidebook is once again running for California's 53rd Congressional District. Here is his pledge to you:

I love my country. Too many people have fought too hard for our prosperity and liberty for our generation to give those away on our watch. There is an expression that directs, "Lead, follow, or get out of the way." I am choosing to lead. I am Nick Popadich and I am running for Congress.

The US House of Representatives is the people's house. It is the link from your neighborhood to your federal government. Your representative should be beholden to the people, to the constituency. Your representative needs to listen to you and be faithful to you. Far too often our representatives have sold their fidelity away. They have sworn their allegiance to political parties, political action groups, and large donors.

I make this pledge to you, the constituency of California's 53rd congressional district. As your Representative, my loyalty resides with you alone. I will represent you, not a political party, not a political action group, nor any special interest.

I am Nick Popaditch. I hope you will join me. Let's get to work.

Visit Nick's congressional website and learn about his mission to make a difference and support his primary run this June 5th.

Order your copy Once a Marine by April 30, 2012 and receive FREE media mail shipping plus a coupon for 10% off Nick's upcoming Ultimate Marine Recruit Training Guidebook. Use coupon code OAM2012 when placing your order.

Recent Savas Beatie Author Interviews

Mark Hughes, author of The New Civil War Handbook recently appeared on WCNC, his local news station, to discuss his efforts to get the Department of Veterans Affairs to mark the graves of 3,500 Union veterans who were placed in a mass grave. A big thanks to Mark for his continued cemetery efforts.

If you missed Jim Hessler's interview on National Public Radio with Talk of the Nation host Jim Fleming a few weeks ago, we saved a copy for you here. A great listen about our favorite Civil War scoundrel, Dan Sickles that covers murder, political corruption, the insanity plea, affairs with queens, plus much more.

Order Sickles at Gettysburg or The New Civil War Handbook by April 30, 2012 and receive 10% off and FREE media mail shipping. Use coupon code SICKLES2012. Note: orders processed through PayPal will receive refund after order has been processed.

Now Under Contract . . .

We are very pleased to share with you a new title recently contracted: Robert E. Lee in War and Peace: Photographs of a Confederate and American Icon, by Don A. Hopkins. Dr. Hopkins scoured manuscript repositories and private collections across the country to locate every known Lee image in existence today. The detailed text accompanying these images provides a sweeping history of Lee's life and a compelling discussion of antique photography, with biographical sketches of all of Lee's known photographers. (7 x 10, scores of images, lavishly illustrated and designed. Release date: November 2012).
