Wednesday Weigh In? - see below for details on how to win a FREE BOOK! |
Dear Reader,
Two important topics this month: fantasy football and the Slash concert.
My team is in place, but do I have a clue about what I am doing? No. Am I confident about my forthcoming success? No. My main players include quarterbacks Brett Favre and Eli Manning; running backs Frank Gore, Fred Jackson, Brandon Jacobs, and Chester Taylor; receivers Donald Driver, Larry Fitzgerald, Percy Harvin, and Braylon Edwards; TE: Visanthe Shiancoe and Tony Scheffler; Kicker Ryan Longwell; and finally, one defense: New York Jets. Time will tell how this all plays out.
I just posted a concert review from last Sunday evening entitled Slash at the Warfield: The Best Live Rock Guitarist Ever? If you have any interest in music, check it out.
Inclusion, let me offer a few comments on this month's Libri Novus. First, author Michael Volkin ( Ultimate Basic Training Guidebook) never stops marketing and working to promote his book. Check out his latest efforts. Second, we are in the process of making most of our titles available in all e-book platforms (Kindle, Apple iPad, Sony Reader, etc.) If you purchase an electronic Savas Beatie book in any format, show us proof of purchase and we will give you a discount on the printed version! More details to follow in the next e-letter. Finally, scroll down and read about Rob Ayers, one of our editors. We love working with Rob, and whether you realize it or not, most of you have read much of his good work.
Kickoff is coming . . .
Stay well.

Wednesday Weigh In
Introducing "Wednesday Weigh In"! Every Wednesday Savas Beatie will post a question on Facebook and Twitter that we want YOUR opinion on. Agree? Disagree? Give us your input, suggestions, and thoughts.
Throughout September, we will log all of your responses and select one person at random to receive a free copy of Civil War Regiments Volume Five, No. 3: Antietam: The Maryland Campaign of 1862. So, the more you "weigh in", the more chances you have to win (September has 5 Wednesdays!)
First up on September 1st: What author -- dead or alive -- would you invite to your next dinner party? Click on the Facebook link above to tell us what you think.

Several astute treasure hunters navigated their way around our Civil War pages and found SICKLES last month in our treasure hunt. Congratulations to Ed D. for being selected as our winner.

Meet Rob Ayer
Rob is a subcontractor who works for Savas Beatie as a developmental editor. I help authors write in such a way that they don't leave their readers behind: that the story stays connected and the writing smooth. Process-wise, I edit the first time through on paper, so that I can mark it up in big swaths and move chunks around, if necessary, to make sure the big pieces of the narrative are in the right places; second and third times through I edit on the computer screen, getting down into the details and cleaning things up. I do a fair amount of back-and-forth communications with authors (and publisher) to make sure it remains their story, instead of me hijacking it. I have worked on the following Savas Beatie titles: Saratoga; Black Rangers; The Unpopular Mr. Lincoln; Flying Drunk; New Dawn; and Fighting Words. I am currently working on Abraham Lincoln and the Structure of Reason.
Thanks, Rob Ayer |

From the Desk of Rachel Savas
As summer winds down, my days are numbered at the office, and the place I've called 'home' for the past 18 years. I only have a mere 2 weeks left in El Dorado Hills. That's 14 days. Or 336 hours. Any way I spin it, my time here is limited.
Goodbye is always bittersweet. I'm closing the door to my past and my childhood while simultaneously taking a step into the unknown: my future. I would be lying if I said I wasn't a bit anxious for college, but as Abraham Lincoln said: "The best thing about the future is that it comes only one day at a time."
However I'm not too worried about college because my internship at Savas Beatie has thoroughly prepared me for the "real world." Every day I was given assignments that challenged and pushed me to do things outside of my comfort zone. Talking with big shot radio hosts and working with remarkable authors has given me an extraordinary boost of confidence; I no longer fear holding a conversation with established intellectuals.
I want to thank everybody at Savas Beatie for making my summer internship one for the books...Ha, literally! I'll never forget my experiences here or the people I came to know so well.
Yours truly,
|
